eico hf-81 questions

Hi all. My girlfriend has inherited from her father's estate an eico hf-81. She would like to sell it but tats another thread. My question is before I fire it up to see if it works any suggestions on what I should check and test first? I have a lot of audio gear but no tube items so I'm a little hesitant as I don't want to ruin this wonderful amp. Thanks in advance

You should introduce it to voltage using a Variac and bringing it up slowly. IMO, If you do not have a Variac or a friend that can do this for you, you would be better off selling it as is to someone that will know what to do with it.

IIRC those use two 6CA4 tubes for voltage rectification, so you have to get your variac up high enough for them to start conducting, or better yet, replace them temporarily with some N4007 ss diodes so you can have a better chance of reforming the caps properly. It will need an overhaul anyway, but these bring good money needing an overhaul, so.......
