I've been rolling some EL34s through my little amp, and picked up an Apex matched pair of Valve Art. They were inexpensive, but so far out of JJ KT77. EH 6CA7 & EH EL34, they have the sweetest, smoothest midrange yet. Funny though...they aren't exactly matched - at least not physically. One is about 3/8" taller than the other. What the heck - loose quality control perhaps? Should I just use them and be happy?

    Thanks!

Maybe the taller one or the others are from an earlier production?

There is a tolerance spec. of the height of all tubes. I wouldn't worry, if it works, use it. The short glass may be correct or the tall glass may be correct. They may have run short on one or the other.

I think the serial numbers are very close, but who knows.

    Sounds good to me!

So it could be slightly different in each instance? They are flat tops with dimples in the middle - looks more like a 6CA7, and could be, for all I know. I don't know enough about the innards to differentiate between a tetrode and pentode.
