I was surprised this morning to have a notice from Apple of a firmware update for their Airport routers. I have an Airport Extreme. 7.7.8 to 7.7.9. As usual Apple is sotto voce about what is in it.

Posting it here as routers are part of home entertainment systems.

Long time coming security fix according to the usual Apple scuttlebutt sources. No ill effects here due to the upgrade on 5 units of various models, generations, configurations, and uses.

It was actually released on the 12th. I check periodically but my Extreme in it’s periodic checks caught it. The fact it was updated means I keep the Airport Extreme awhile longer. As usual there are rumors that Apple might incorporate the Airport router into a future Apple TV.

Update available SHOULD have appeared for all relevant devices on your AirPort Utility display (runs on Macs, IOS, or Windows).

I had been having issues with my Apple WiFi system over the past couple of weeks. I finally looked into it and sure enough: an update was required.

Why does this gear start going nutso when a new update rolls out?
