First integrated amp

Hey all,

I do a whole lot of learning (lurking) and not much posting here on AK, but I just got my first "real" amp and figured it was worth talking about! I bought an absolutely beautifully clean Sansui au-555a from a gentleman in Chicago. Should be here Thursday. I've read great things about them for their class, and figured it would make my AR xa sound lovely (not to mention the looks!!)

I may have over paid ($215) but like I said, cleanest one on the internet, and not any more than I had intended to spend anyway. I passed on a Revox B750 for twice the price.

I know I should look at a recap, we'll see how it performs upon arrival. Any comments, knowledge, etc is very welcome!!

Here are a few pics from the listing, I'll get more up when it comes in! Faceplate and cabinet are very clean!

Great little amp. I would still have mine if didn't come across the AU-888.

If you get any popping noises while listening, there are some transistors that should be replaced.

Rob

Sounds advice on the popping. Regarding the AU-888, it is one of my favourites, but it is a bit of a different beast to the AU-555A with it's lack of output coupling cap etc; I vote for owning both! :)

Nice choice, I have a 555A in the bedroom connected to a pair of AR-5's, They sound very nice together, the XA's should sound great.
