Fisher 400

I'd Buy THAT For A Dollar
I just happened to fall upon a Fisher 400 tube stereo (I think it's birthdate is in 1964?) in remarkable condition with all original paperwork and accessories. It's been sitting in a closet for the past 30 + years and surfaced recently because the owner, a nice little old lady who is the original owner, is moving out of the country. I didn't want to use it too much before getting it serviced, but the sound reproduction through my HD-650 headphones was amazing. It was a good day :thmbsp:

You lucked out!:thmbsp:

If it has been sitting in a closet for 30 years though I'd be sure to have it checked out before using it.

BTW, that's a Fisher 400 tube receiver, not 400-T, so this should be in the Tube Audio forum.

Any pics?

Any recommendations of someone who can service it, in the NYC region?

I'll get some pics posted in the next day. Don't feel like digging out the camera at this moment :thumbsdn:

As a former (born and bred) Baltimoron myself, may I acknowledge that it's good to see the Natty Boh guy in your avatar, there, sir!

There are a couple of good Fisher 400 threads here at AK, if you've not seen them yet. E.g.,

Sorry, I don't have a suggestion for a service person in the NY area; I am sure there be one, and someone here can and will help.

HAHA...gotta represent Mr. Boh in proper fashion, like vintage audio forums! Now i'm getting a craving for some steamed crab legs and Old Bay...:thmbsp:

Thanks for the links

Whooa!...that is a treasure. I have the 170T & 220T . The 220T was made in usa around 1966 while the 170T is 71 but made in Japan. The time Fisher was switching to transistorized but sounded like tube. One thing with old vintage Fisher is the amazing sound.
Take care of it as Avery Fisher says in 1964 -- "a door has opened for you, and your family, on virtually unlimited years of musical enjoyment."

He was exactly right!:thmbsp:
