Cool . I’m happy to keep my 2009 MacBook Pro running as long as I can. They have the best sounding sound card and DAC of any MacBook. In fact this is my second one. Bought it in B/T last year.

My machine is like a 2010 HP desktop. It came with an Athlon II X4 but I uhhh...broke it doing a heatsink swap. So now it's got a Phenom II X4. Of course upgraded the Ethernet, USB, power supply, video card, and already had a USB dac but I've since upgraded.

For the record, VLC media player is free and plays flac on iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, you can't eliminate the gap between songs, but it has a ton of flexibility in terms of streaming from the network and it sounds great. When I travel, I bring a small USB wifi dongle (Toshiba Canvio) that creates a hotspot that my flac thumb drive can plug into, then I just stream to my phone and headphones. 256GB, lossless and mobile. Works in car too.
