former Sony tech

Hi kcvet

What a welcome in true AK style.

I read Akio Morita's book btw.

Did you know Sony's first commercial product was a rice cooker?

thank you all. that was my reason for coming to see if i can help. do my best.
Great, I don't specialize on Sony but occasionally receive some of their
stuff to work on (mostly TVs), If I have any questions I'll give you ring.

I worked on just about everything they made. up to 2001. from the cheap stuff to the es/ex models. including CD players. single, carousels, magazine loaders etc. same with TV's.

Some of the stuff I don't accept. Single disk DVD players are good example.
When you can buy them new from 30-50 bucks it doesn't make them
very feasible to repair.

from 3" LCD/watchman's to large CRT models. my last 2 years was as a tech rep for us and authorized dealers. problem is i don't have access to s/m's anymore. although i can download them.

3" watchman"s?
Did you do board level repair on those?

I retired just before large screen LCD's came out. :music:

That's about the same deal with the local TV tech. He stopped
just about the time LCD started getting big, good for him.

yes. component repair. on everything they made

yeah DVD, CD players are dirt cheap stuff now.

have you ever raised a ps-x75 turntable from the dead?

I'm curious where the parts for all these went, were they thrown out, sold out..what happens when they discontinue something?

probably. I didn't work on turntables at first. an audio tech did. I did TV. impossible to remember all the model nr.s

the factory OEM parts were discontinued as the demand for them went down. dumpster???

Welcome, kcvet! I hope you enjoy it here.

Some of my favorite audio products I own are Sony including my:

  1. WMD6 Pro Walkman Cassette recorder (the model before the WMD6C)
  2. TA-2000F Preamp (Thanks JohnVF!)
  3. ST-J60 Tuner (Thanks Snade!)
  4. XDR-F1HD Tuner
  5. SRS-150 Powered Speakers (square woofers)

JohnVF's Sony speakers (SS-M7 I believe) are incredible as well. I almost bought a TA-3200 power amp back in the mid '70s when it was new.

Hi kcvet

My memory is dim (no surprise!) as I read AM's book many years ago, but the story about the rice cooker is in the book. As far as I remember, Morita-san's co-founder of Sony was involved and the container was made from wood due to shortage of aluminium.

I just assumed you meant the first electric cooker. but you really didn't say as there were many types.

its a non issue for me

Do you still have any contacts at Sony? I need the supply side guide post assy for a DTC-1000ES DAT deck. It could be used off a scrap machine.
