I don't think the world knows what we lost there. While she was getting pretty big, it's like people just move to the next thing that moves them after her death. At some point I hope people slow down and look back at how good she was.
Speaking of a tragic loss and looking back after a death.
My post in the AK 'R.I.P. Amy Winehouse' thread:
Many years ago Nine Inch Nails were playing Manchester Apollo,I was on the guest list via a friend who is high up in Manchesters music world,he is a massive NIN fan but he was dealing with a drug and alchohol crisis at Manchester Academy, they could not get the artist on stage until the demands were met.He showed up half an hour before NIN hit the stage stressed.
"We could not get this 19 year old kid on stage until we rang round every dealer in town"
"Who was it?"
"Never heard of her"
"You will do".
I must add.
On hearing Back to Black for the first time I was impressed, but then after a few more listens I felt things arn't right, great vocals but the music doesn't hold up.
Mark Ronsons production does not work for me,its too clean, too polished, too digital. Its not Bobby Gentry and its not Dusty in Memphis but it tries to be and you cannot replicate that sound using Pro Tools, theres no errors or bum notes, life has just been sucked out of it.
