Giving Deezer a try

Have been on Deezer HiFi 30-day trial for a few days. Liking it a lot so far. Their app, unlike Tidal, doesn’t push crap in my face every time I open it. It has very quickly adjusted to my taste, displaying my Flow and the Jazz genre selector button right up top on the home page. Nice!

Full FLAC playback on Sonos. Nice! Just added Alexa control, which is fully integrated with Sonos at home, and the Roav VIVA in the car. Nice! They’re talking about integrating Sonos Direct Control soon, about the only advantage Tidal has over them at the moment.

They also have by far the most complete integration into the Sonos controller app, nothing missing. Nice!

Apparently they also have the largest catalog, as well. Have noticed a lot of holes in Amazon’s catalog, so may very well be switching within the 30 days. $120/year for FLAC? Nice!

This says they are rolling out their HiFi tier to a bunch of other devices via Chromecast.

I notice that the HQ light goes out when I cast to my CCA or Google Home, so not sure when this will be available outside Sonos.

Funny, their web site doesn't mention Chromecast supports HQ. They were advertising Google Assistant integration months ago, but that, so far, hasn't happened. They never advertised the Alexa integration, it just showed up a couple days ago.

Yo Chicks, how does Deezer compare to Tidal in SQ?

I personally like MQA, even when in 24/96 as I don't have a MQA enabled DAC.

Integration is of less importance to me as I use a laptop for streaming.
