Good schematic for SE EL34/KT88 amp

RU, I now can read it pretty good but will still have ?s.
But 1st the choke.
will the hammond 193G 10H/150ma/102R work?
AES doesnt list the 192 now.
or is there a better place to get it. I prefer all one place for 1 price shipping and AES is a good source,
Boy the iron aint cheep.

Yes sir, I'm sure that'll do just fine. I used a 10h choke as well as two smaller chokes for the preamp b+. One of the benefits of this amp, I think, is the relative small parts count. Makes it possible to use REALLY good stuff. I also used a MUCH bigger ptx
Thing weighs a ton.

My first cap is a couple of paralleled pio motor runs, into the big choke, into a 100uf Solen, that's where it splits into two rails. Two 3h chokes, each into a 47uf Solen. It worked out very nicely.

RUmad, I want to use just one choke.
the 193 is special order.
Can I use a 158M 10H/100ma?
Or is the 150ma a critical spec?
Thanks

Not with EL34's. You might be in trouble if you ever decide to throw some KT88 's in there, but you could always change out the choke if you did.
With EL34's and the 880ohm cathode resistors, depending on you b+, you'll be less than 40ma per tube.

KT88s will be used.
So what choke should be used?
Henrys?
Resistance?
current?

you said I could ask questions. hahahah
Thanks

PS: this will be the JE labs amp that I have the ancient schem for.
calling for a 10H 150ma #192 hamond not available.
I am getting frustrated and befuddled.

I don't mind at all. If using KT88's I would do two things. Use a bigger choke, 200ma would be best. Mine is either 175ma or 200ma, I can't remember, and it's fine. The other thing I would change from the original schematic is the cathode resistors. At 880, they run WAY too cold. It works, it sounds ok, but way over-biased. With the voltage I have I ended up with 470ohm wirewound, 25 watt, for exactly 70% of max plate dissipation. Max pd being 42 watts.
It's a great circuit, you're going to love it.

I gotta get my mind around this.
That is a 6 lb choke and it is huge and expensive.
I'm not sure I want continue this project.
I know. If you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.

I'd shop around. Find something less expensive. Get one without endbells maybe. Mount it underneath.

Well RU, that is very generous of you.
That would be my choice as well.
I have done some looking at other xfmr mfg but no luck.
I even have a Viet Namese contact with guys over there who wind an make transformers for
Viet Namese audio gear makers. They make some pretty nice stuff.
If I ever buy asian made audio it will be Viet namese.
A Viet namese friend kknows the transformer folks over there.
That is a just incase thing at this time.
I will await your findings.

angela is UK. i think. as is the ugly one.

the edcor is the one I showed you and is the one I'll get if you like it.
its 10h and 200ma still not small and not cheep but beggers cant be choozers.
its cheeper than the others and since I gotta get edcor PT and OPTs I mite as well get their coke. al are 6 wk deliv.

Triad Magnetics from Mouser: C-14X is a 6 henry 200Ma unit, for not much money.

my two cents Stu
