Goodbye Apu, we will miss you.

Speaking of Mel Blanc, Mexican accents and stereotypes, who remembers this guy?

Sure, I remember the Frito Bandito.

The kid and I watch a fair amount of Mexican league soccer on the Spanish speaking channel. There are more than a few Mexican fans dressed just like that during matches.

A) I'm going to try and spend more of my time NOT being offended by TV shows, movies, what corporations do, what athletes say and do, and what Hollywood wankers say or do (unless they are breaking the law, of course - in which case, I'll express my outrage quietly, and then go about my business of helping to run my company and taking care of my family).

B) I think it would have been cool if Apu evolved and grew as a businessman - starts out with one convenience store, and ends up owning several - all while maintaining his good nature and bright outlook as he transitions from working class Joe to fairly wealthy independent businessman. It would open up a lot of potential for the character and the show - lots of biting commentary on the American upper-middle class could have been played out through Apu.
