Great Bands That Will NEVER Be In The RRHOF

Many great bands will be overlooked, as well as individuals. Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose, Commander Cody, The James Gang, Gentle Giant, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk. Here are the requirements to be inducted, if not already known.

Funny, I don't associate good dentition with British rock bands ;)

(sorry -- couldn't resist)

Remember when The Kinks' Ray Davies actually sat down in a dentist's chair, to have the diastemic gap in his front teeth filled? He considered his getting up and fleeing, and keeping his mouth as the the good lord created it, as one of the most important decisions of his career.

Thanks for posting the requirements. After reading that I feel that a lot of the artists mentioned in this thread should be in.

Freddie Mercury would not have his front teeth straightened in fears his voice would change. I did notice all the Cowsill's had their "gaps" closed.

Well, I can only I write that I in full agreement: they ain' never gettin' into the hall.

While I agree Wolf Parade will never make the RRHOF, I will argue it's not for lack of talent. Dan Boeckner (one of the 2 principal song-writers in the band) is one of the best song-writers in rock music right now. Obviously that's my opinion, and does not mean diddly in the grand scheme. But all the same, I'd recommend you give them - specifically his songs, in that band and his other projects - more than just a cursory listen, before dismissing them.

Sorry for the tangent.

I went on a bender with Boeckner about 15 years ago (Vancouver Island is a small, tight-knit community). At one bar, he jumped on stage and sang a song called "Jo Jo the Dog-Faced Boy". I wish that moment was recorded!

I agree he is one of the best song writers out there, but he also possesses one of the best rock voices out there, too. And his guitar playin' ain't too shabby....

I talked to him outside a club in Chicago years ago. He seems like a really nice guy, too.

There are a few suggestions on this thread that seem, to me, less than desirable choices as inductees.
I'll agree the with those who believe Spirit, Jethro Tull and Roxy Music to be glaringly unjustly snubbed.
It, the RRHOF, is a private business and the owner can do what sees fit.
The majority of inductees deserve the award is all I can say.
70/30 at best:dunno:

Obviously, the RRHOS (S = Shame) is a travesty. While there are many truly noteworthy artists that have been inducted, there are even more that are extremely questionable. Unfortunately, the powers in charge of deciding who gets nominated are heavily biased against certain forms of music and have no interest in nominating seriously influential artists.

Or perhaps their interest in in attempting to ensure that they stay (or become) relevant, by keeping out the real deserving bands until there is almost a public revolt. The fact that Rush had damned near retired before they were inducted, and that Yes were inducted AFTER (and by) Rush and after the death of Chris Squire, goes a good way to explaining why Alex Lifeson's "Blah Blah Blah" acceptance speech and Rick Wakeman's prostate are about the only high spots in recent years.

Bollocks to the HoF. We know who is great without a miscellaneous gang of nobodys trying to pretend they have any influence.

No, seriously. Has anyone else here survived the 1970s? Do you remember the blow-dried hair dudes, sometimes with a porno mustache, who used to manage places like Musicland in the mall? That's whom I think of when I think of things like the RRHOF. I never put stock in what these people thought was good music back then; I sure don't now.

well said!

Johnny Rotten's fax to the RRHOF.....:)

One thing I noticed is a lack of influential bands from Manchetser, Joy Divsion, The Smiths, New Order, Stone Roses.... not cool. Seattle & CBGBs.....cool. we'll see how Oasis goes next year as their first album was out in 94, imagine the Gallagher brothers tearing the place apart or having a punch up.

Tina Turner still hasn't made it either.

i'll add a few more

I lived in Detroit when the decision was made and there were some hurt feelings. But get real. When I was a kid and bands said "Detroit fans are the best fans in the world!" I'd think "Wow - that's pretty impressive!". I also believed Ernie Harwell knew where all the fans in the stands who caught balls came from.

ERNIE HARWELL REALLY DID KNOW WHERE ALL THE FANS IN THE STANDS WHO CAUGHT BALLS CAME FROM! He checked IDs as they entered the stadiums. He even said so!

Back on topic; I will not even think about going to the RRHOF until the Captain Beefheart wing is finished. I also don't understand why Jethro Tull isn't included.
