I know that there have been other threads on Hana cartridges, but I want to share my initial thoughts.
I ordered a Hana EH cartridge, paid, got the email. It turned out that they didn't have the EH cartridge in stock. They offered me a couple of dollars off of the SH, and I was hesitant. The EH and SL seem to be the money cartridges.
I am in the process of changing out my system. I have not changed anything in a number of years. I am very attached to my turntable and my preamp. I have tested them through changes here and there and found them to be pretty awesome.
My amplifier and speakers are just okay. I enjoy them, but I am now working at home. I don't drink or any other substances any more, so intense listening really scratches an itch for me.
Okay -- the cartridge. I think there are instruments in my music that I have never heard before. It is new -- I expect it to break in and improve. The midrange seems to be very clear. There is an increased air-y ness about it. The bass is very distinct and separate from the midrange as you would expect in a live situation.
I have run it though Musik von Harmonia (Brain label Gronland Records). It is a good record with lots of layers. The layers are much more distinct. The drums are noticeable in a different space from the keys. The channel separation seems to be on a different level from my old cartridge.
This is listed as a 2mV output cartridge, but I don't find the output to be all that noticeably different than my 4mV output MM cartridge.
The cartridge is very light. I have a removable headship, and I have the Hana on the same headshell as a Shure M97xe -- a standard Technics. My tonearm can almost not handle it. I have removed the aux weight, and the main counter weight is half a turn from bottoming out.
I will write more as I listen more, but I am wondering on my speaker and amplifier purchases with this new cartridge.
