Harman-Kardon Citation I preamp story

If you do get a turntable, you do realize they don't have any tubes? :D

They DON'T? Not even the OLD ones???

I've sold some Hewlett-Packard audio generators (forget the number now), the big robust TUBE units, to guys who use them to generate the AC for the motor for their turntable. That way you can dial in the frequency to EXACTLY what you need. Apparently they produce a nice clean sine wave at some power.

So yes, you can use tubes to power your turntable. So there. :thmbsp:

Who, me? I'm just the enabler! It's those crazy turntable fanatics with their Linn TT's who use a tube signal generator to power their disc-spinners. And of course they say it sounds better...

Actually thought about doing that to my TT....

I've got an old amp and was planning to hook up a sine wave generator to it to drive the turntable but never have gotten around to hooking it up.

Used to demo Crown amps using a sine wave generator driving a DC-300 to which I had hooked up an electric drill. We used to let the prospective owner drill holes in 2x4s with the contraption. Sold lots of those things for discos in the 70s.....don't ask about the sound, though.

Cheers,

David
