hashimoto hm3 match denon 103r?

hi all

I’m currently using a 1254 based sut with my denon 103R and on 1:40 gain (about 40 ohm) works pretty well.

I’m wondering if the hashimoto hm3 would be an even better match with the denon 103r

I’m a bit confused about the way they explain their loading:

3ohm: 3 to 7
12ohm: 7 to 40

Anybody that can explain this and have tried out this match?

Thanks in advance.

The production Hashimoto HM-3 is known as the Live! MC-903 SUT which has x20/x40 step-up ratios or 26dB/32dB gain.

I would email Isao Asakura at Hashimoto (support@obsinc.us) to get specific information about the HM-3 and what would be best for the 103r.

Yes, it's ambiguous but I can only assume that it means the 3 ohm setting is suitable for cartridges with coil impedances between 3 ohms and 7 ohms. The 12 ohm setting is suitable for cartridges with coil impedances between 7 ohms and 40 ohms.
Personally I think it's a lot more useful to know the turns ratio of the transformer and for the Denon 103R I recommend a turns ratio of 1:20. You can go for a higher turns ratio, but I wouldn't recommend much higher. 1:26 would be fine but after that I would say tread carefully.
