There were two amps in that auction and upon winning
Not initially, he offered the other much later in the thread.
Here's from the op..
Afternoon all.
I have pulled one of the amplifiers I had just listed this week in Barter Town and am now offering it up for auction for the benefit of the AK annual Christmas charity drive.
He then followed with pics, two showing what was said to be the underside
(or gut shots) of the unit he was offering in the opening post of the thread.
It is those pics which got my attention especially when I seen one of them
used in a sales thread put up just days ago. At first I considered maybe the
seller in that thread might have been the person who won the auction last
year, and is reselling the amp. But the overall condition of the amp presented is different.
I donated the money to the charity and got the "better of the two" amps he had listed and behind the scenes we discussed the specifics of what I was looking for specifically for this amp and discussed caps used/tubes etc. If you look at the pictures of the undersides that Chris posted, clearly they are not the same units. Dan used "hand picked" caps that he knew to work very well in these units.
Yes I know, that's what caught my attention. Earlier I assumed the unit
you ended up with was the one that was in the
first post of the auction thread, apparently not.
There was no misrepresentation on my part towards the seller in anyway.
I wasn't suggesting you were guilty of misrepresentation. You're not the
one who originally sold the amp. But when I see details that don't make
sense or looks out of place, I start asking myself questions as to what is
going on and why.
He knew about the charity auction, knew who built the amp and I PMed him the entire description that Dan sent to me about this amp so he knew exactly what he was getting. Dan was even gracious enough to extend the 1 year warranty over to Chris for any repairs it may need in the future. If there was more I could have done, trust me I would have done it. I take care of my fellow AKer and this situation breaks my heart to no end. My heart literally sank when I got the call and I've been sick about this entire situation for the past 4 days.. simply not knowing what to do to resolve this.
I know the feeling, trust me its even worse when something happens
and youre the one who did the work.
I did not remove the underside to take pictures upon getting the amp and the only time the case was removed was to install/test the brand new output tubes. Again, it was properly packaged, there were absolutely NO issues at all during the entire 2 month period in which I owned it, and its my understanding that Dan used this amp at his home without fault for a long time prior to that. It was in fact the quietest and best sounding amp that I had ever used on my Audio Nirvana speakers which are close to 100 dB efficient. Any minor hum/hiss would be clearly audible. I never ran the amp hard, played at high levels, or connected any interconnects that would stress the RCA jacks.
I believe you, I didn't suggest what happened was due to your actions.
My only motivation to make this trade were to get a pre-amp that allowed for an adjustable phono input and that had a remote, something that makes sense now that I am a father. I was not trying to "pawn off" a worn and broken down piece to Chris. I sincerely felt that this was a treasure of an amp that he would have for a lifetime!
I wasn't suggesting that you were trying to take advantage of anyone.
