Heaviest speaker find so far....

These are the heaviest speakers I've personally found, so far. Not looking for comparisons to other behemoths out there, just more info on these particular speakers. Got them today off of CL for $30. Philips FB585XAK01 3-ways. They seriously weigh 82 lbs each. Oak veneer finish cabinets are awesome looking. Working condition with the obligatory recap and refoam necessary. All drivers work and test in spec for proper ohms. A check on the rear terminals showed 9.6 on one and 14.2 on the other. After disassembly I found the negative wire had come off the woofer. No markings on the woofers (even under the magnet cap) except for 9/28/88 scratched into the back of the cone can't see this unless you shine a light on it) and 69704. Zero on the mids. 028TI on the tweeters. They are titanium domes so I know they were JBLs but I can't find anything on the net for 028TI. Crossovers look in great shape and have a JBL stamp. The caps are 14uf and 36uf (both 100V NP).

If anyone else has more info on these, please "weigh" in. If not, I hope what I have posted helps since I couldn't find anything else out there.

Those are some serious woofers! Have fun with those. :thumbsup:

Dude, you know it! I had to have my wife assist me (needed more than two hands) when I pried off the magnet caps they were so strong.

Question: Why the riveted connectors when the frame has a place for them cast in? Cost?

Magico Q7 are up there. And a paragon easily out weighs a Grand as does an EV patrician. JBL 4435 and DD67000 aren't light either. Altec 817 with two 3156 are a real chore especially with a 1003 B on top with two 290 drivers and a N 500 f crossover.

Pretty chunky for just over a yard tall, with average dimensions for the L and W. I'd say they seem well built, and are shielded.

:whip::crazy::rant::eek::oops:

Seems to have degenerated into a pissing match about "my speakers are bigger than yours". The topic is about the Philips FB585 speakers I bought today and that they are the heaviest "I (me), personally" have acquired. Pretty sure I can impress myself with an internet search for "heavy speakers".

My apologies! From the thread title and your post, I thought, obviously wrongly, that you were opening a thread to have people comment on the heaviest speakers they currently own.

I've had a lot of heavy speakers... the sparkomatic-era Altec 510 speakers were insanely heavy for their size. Even though they sit around 5' tall and maybe a foot and a half wide, they weigh like most 6'x4' cabinets filled with multiple 15" drivers!

Fellas, this isn't about the heaviest speakers! This is about the heaviest the OP has found. LMAO, we're all chiming in with different speakers WE have or have found. I think we missed his point.

Those look VERY jbl (L100T, to me) and look very seriously built.

Watching with great interest.

Thanks, onward! Much of my post is aimed at getting info out on these particular speakers since there's not much out there. Nice comparison to L100Ts. They were made the same time as these (1988). The front aesthetics differ but the frames are very similar. They are 3/4" MDF which explains most of the weight. The bases are screwed on and have pre-drilled holes for stands.
