Hello and greetings from (not-so-sunny-today) NYC! I’ve recently been bitten by the bug and getting back into being an audio enthusiast. I mentioned this to an old friend from college and she immediately said “you’re buying all that fancy stereo equipment again?” So I guess I was known for that a tiny bit during college

Over the years I’ve dabbled in Nak decks, a variety of DAT gear (DAT-heads, anyone?), MDs (v grudgingly), more than a few CD changers, vinyl (a pair of 1200s) and any engineering marvel from Japan (the more miniaturized the better). And then came the iPod. The convenience of iTunes and compressed music was strong in me, and I strayed to the dark side. And then there was video... so I upgraded my Anthony Gallo system to 5.1 and called it a day.

Recently, though, I started a Tidal/Roon subscription, bought some HD albums, dusted off my CDs and rediscovered the joy of listening to a full album. I’m looking to build out a solid 2-channel system (or two) as I move into a new place, as well as majorly update the digital side and slowly upgrade my components. Listening to music is now fun again. But I think the best analog gear was built when components weren’t designed to be disposable. And there is so. much. out there! (I’m a bit of a gearhead).

This looks like an awesome community and I’ve already learned so much by poking around old threads, and I hope to pick up new tips on properly maintaining all that is mechanically glorious about audio gear as the adventure begins! (does this count as a reboot?)
