Check this out. My Head Amp Unit is p/n W21-001 but your manual has a W15-049. Strange stuff!
i have 3 manuals here . all a bit different
head amp is w21-001 in first one i posted . you read it wrong
sx990 is W15-049
Gotcha! Thanks again
I pretty much went through this with my Allied 495. Its mostly an SX-1500TD, using the head amp from an SX-990 and the older MPX board that you have. The recap list I came up with is here, you'll have to figure what goes in your head amp and mic amp though.

I used UF5408 diodes in mine. It had 2 originals and 2 non-original. Both crossed to a 3 amp part, so I used the UF5408 that I had on hand as those are also 3 amp.
Pete; Probably got it from kallhovde PIONEER site. It has the schematics the OP needs with the correct board numbers.

I soldered in the last (2) capacitors today and gingerly fired this relic up. So far I have tested AM, FM and AUX settings. AM works, AUX worked with my IPod but FM has nothing. The tuning analog meter appears to be working but the strength analog meter is pegged at full strength. I replaced all electrolytic capacitors in this stereo.
Here are the pictures showing the new caps.
if it helps any,i was told that there are at least 5 different variations of the 1500td. yours is newer as it appears to have the later mpx board, w13-026 unless of course it was added later. so as far as "correct" goes its all quite relative as schematics for each variation are lost to history, what is available inline is all there is.the only thing you can do is replace parts based upon what is there originally.my unit was made in oct '69 and had the older mpx board.
Where did you find the date for your unit? I spoke with my aunt and she said this unit was brought back in 1970 or 71 when my uncle finished his first trip to Vietnam.
its the first part of the serial number in code. on the 1st page of THIS forum 4th from the top is "pioneer dates of manufacture" and below it on the next line is "pioneer serial numbers" your answer is there
I should have noticed this sooner but there are two empty rivet holes across the back plate that are about 2 inches apart. I guess someone decided to remove the name plate. Are there any other markings on the inside that are tell tale signs of its lineage?
no there isnt. but really, aside from your curiosity i dont see how it alters things as far repairing it
