How expensive was your first car?

In 1975 I paid $50 for a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 , took it to Kmart ans spend $60 on a new set of recap tires. Drove it over 100 MPH once and the metal roof of the car sucked down till it hit my head. I pushed it back up, but it always had a rumpled top after that. I sold it to a neighbor who used it in a demolition derby. It didn't win but it took out a bunch of cars. What a way to die for a car.

In 1977 I bought a 1969 VW camper van for $1700 (and had to rebuild the engine soon after). I put 60,000 miles on the rebuild and sold the van 5 years later for $2100. :( Wish I would have kept it.

October 1977. Ordered a 1978 Camaro. Coupe. Delivered in December . 5400.00.
Paid cash. I was 23. Drove it off the lot with my father trailing me. Paid 55 cents a gallon for gas. 11.00. Parked it safely in the garage the first night.
Those analog gauges were awesome.

First car, '87 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport wagon - hand me down. There's nothing euro or sporty about 80's GM cars, but it was lovable anyway. Taken back from me at 215,000 miles :( Could have been a bit (a LOT) more reliable and all, but whatever.

Second car, '93 Saturn SC2 hand me down. POS. Was glad when it was out of my life.

Third car - '06 Mustang GT, V8, stick, black. $27,000 or so. I think, I don't remember. Maybe it was $23,000. Anyway, it did great burnouts, but also got hit 6 times. Gave it to a cow-orker at 247,000 miles, he's gonna scrap it at 300,000. Original clutch :)

Current car - '41 Mazda 3. $25,000 (too much). No balls, but stick and it's got 217,000 miles and hasn't had a darn thing go wrong other than the blower under the dash (fixed myself) and a wheel bearing in the back (ditto). Hoping to get it to 300,000 - 350,000 miles.

I didn't realize they'd been making the 3 that long.

:p

'84 Caprice ex-police cruiser, got it for $1200. It had a fair amount of rust, but it was always dependable. The guy I sold it to used it to tow a pop-up camper.

About 1971, I bought a very plain 1967 Plymouth Valiant for $1500, three hundred more than I spent a year ago on a 2002 Volvo S60. Does that even make sense?

Bought a 1979 Honda Civic for $25 when I was 12 in 1986. A family friend sold it to me and gave me a tool set and a water pump in a box and said I'll set here and drink beer and tell you how to replace it. Sold it a few months later for 1800. That was 250 cars ago. Lol and I could name them all. Wife says I love real life hot wheels. Always have at least 5 or so in the yard.
