there might be a couple more on the way....

Portable:
JVC RC-M70 J/W
Sony FH-7 Mk3. Not really portable but......

At least eight different R2R machines between 1973 and 2000:
Sony TC366, TC377, TC580
TEAC A2300SD, X7 X10
REVOX A77, Pioneer 909 (?)
Tandberg (?) what a POS that was.

At least 30 cassette decks since 1974 to present:
TEAC A360S, A450
3 Sony, 2 Sansui, 2 Yamaha, 1 Onkyo, 1 Denon
2 Pioneers including a CTF-1250!
1 DUAL, 1 NAD
BIC T4M (YES!), 1 TOSHIBA (almost identical to the BIC)
1 Sanyo, 1 Fisher, 1 AKAI
8 Nakamichis, 1 Tandberg, 2 HKs
4 Marantz, several Kenwoods - is that it?
CURRENT: 1 Sony, 1 Marantz, 1 Nakamichi
NEVER HAD: LUXMAN, REVOX, or B&O.
Didn't need to buy most of them but I couldn't help myself. About a quarter were bought new, the rest used but always in nice condition. The BIC and the Tandberg made excellent recordings but both were very troublesome and not worth the price of admission. My serviceman saw them more than I did!

Reel to reel decks:
Sony TC-651
Sony TC-666
Otari MX5050BII

Can't even remember back that far, but well over 25-30. I started when reel was mono and cars had 4 track cartridge players. I've spun a lot of tape in the intervening years :)

Currently I have something like the following:

BIC T-3 two speed cassette
Nakamichi 480 (2 each)
Kenwood 1030 (?)
Pioneer CTF900
Pioneer RT901
Sony TK77R
Denon 740
Akai GX (something)
ROTEL 1010
Marantz portable cassette
a few Sony Walk People

... and a few others I can't remember - oh well, memory is starting to go :(

Just a few machines that I can remember having now and had.

I never got into reel to reel, but when everybody was buying 8 tracks I bought my first nice cassette machine, a Teac A400. Ended up with an Aiwa 6900, which I still have, and have since added another 6900 and a 6900 Mk II.

I'm in the process of converting a lot of stuff to digital, so eventually I'll wean that collection down to the single 6900 Mk II.

Can't say I've had a lot of decks, but the 6900's have served me well over the years.

bs

At this moment of time I have 40+ R2R decks, inc Studer,Technics,Sony,Akai,Ferrograph,Philips,Nagra,Revox, plus others. One day I will

OOoo tape deck from HELL. That must of been a doozy. Your Otari 5050- can you peg the meters to +9db?
I never liked the model number of that Sony either, but they're great working decks. It's a 4 head deck that will play/record in both directions but you can't monitor the tape while you're recording.

I haven't done anything with my Otari yet except look at it. I just got it last week and haven't gotten around to messing with it.

Cassettes:

First cassette deck, about 1973: cheap, cheap battery-powered Phillips mono deck. I spent more joyful hours on that one than probably any deck I have owned since.

2: ITT stereo portable cassette; stereo mic included.

3: Teac 410. Great unit, lasted 20 years.

4: (current) Tascam 112Mk2.

R-t-R:

First: 1968 Aiwa 4-track stationary/portable (if you put in 8 D batteries) The tape guides appeared to have been made using bent paperclips.

Current:
Teac X-1000R
Studer 807Mk.2

Best,
C.

Seabreeze "Voice of Music" tube R2R
Sony TC-630 "Stereo Center"
Sony TC-355
Sony TC-377
Sony TC-755
Akai GX-230D
Akai 4000DS
Akai GX-630D
Teac X-3
Teac A-4010S
Teac 3300S-2T
Teac X-2000BL
Tascam 34B

Technics RS-M205
Technics RS-M215
Sony TC-xx early '80s
Akai GXC-709D
Nakamichi CR-3A
Nakamichi CR-5
Nakamichi CR-7
Teac V-7

What actually remains today? The Nak CR-7 and Tascam 34B are in my main system, my dad uses the CR-3A, and the Sony TC-755, Teac X-3 and 3300S-2T are on the bench. Everything else was either sold or dismantled never to be repaired. I think I gave my grandfather the Technics RS-M215. I really wish I still had the Teac X-2000, she sure was mint...the upgrades to Mac pre/power meant it had to go. Gotta find a B77MKII or PR99 one day...

And this is all in 12 years of collecting since I was 8 years old. I wonder how many more there will be in the next 40 years I'll probably be doing this...

I have recently re-acquired the R2R syndrome and have bought a few. Not really into building a collection of them, but...

Already have:
Teac X-3R (bought used but mint condition - almost unused)
Revox PR 99 MkII (bought used with symptoms of age but working fine - currently undergoing full restoration)

On the way:
Technics RS-1506 (appears in excellent condition)
Revox B77MkII (low speed model)

Still looking for a good condition nice priced 4-track Auto reverse (either Teac or Pioneer, X1000R or RT-909 are my favourites - anyone cares to oblige?)

There are a couple of Aiwa walkman recorders, and a few cassette decks:

Superscope (model forgotten) used until 1977 and "serviced" by me more times than it could handle. Scrapped.
Technics RS-631 (Bought new in 1978, died 1992)
Aiwa AD-F800 (bought new to replace the 631, still going fine),
Technics RS-B 965 (bought used but mint condition, backup for the Aiwa)
