How Many Marantz "Model 500" Owners Here.??

Yup- those doors are a PITA to find. I was lucky though, to find one for a good friend of mine, who had a 500 that was missing the door.

Here are three pics from mine, when they were just brought home. I put the whole lot on the table and sat back - gasping:yikes::yikes::yikes:

The pics show fingermarks here and there on the faces, but that's really all there is - they'll clean up very nicely with only a clean lintfree cloth.

They are going to drive a stereo set-up consisting of two JBL 4333A's (1976) - which I think they can do quite easily - no strain here. I'm not intending to use them both at the same time - I'm not a 5.1 - fan, but rather an old fashioned stereo-fan - so it will be one power amp at the time.

Here's my Front Channels of the 5.1 the 3300 -120B -250-500

Rear channels 3300-250 and two spare 250's noot shown..Speakers are Doubel stack E/V Sentry III's Front. Looking for the E/v Seq eq for the Sentry's.. Can't find them any where.

A Blue Ray DVD with a movie using "DTS" Processor is killer in 5.1... Using it at live listening level will clean the ear wax out for sure. Music in suround 2.1 is also killer. My system as 3 Sub Systems.. Music is outragous in 2.1 or 5.1

I bought those right from the factory on a Deal as I use to Manage a Hi-Fi store back in the 70's. Got them for half price. One set I bought came from Denmark and were brought over my the orignal owner. E/V sold a licence to Denmark to make them.

They only require 50 Watts RMS to go to 118 DB..!!

Denmark has had a looong tradion for making beautifull woodwork of most kinds. No surprice that eV choose Danes to make those cabs. JBL also chose to have a lot of speakers made here during the 90's and into the 00's. In fact we have a relatively large industry in making speakers over here. Dynaudio - Scan speak - Vifa- and woodfactories to make the cabs. With that sensivity on your system, your 500 will never sweat -eh??

Fred....variac to power them up yes.....?

They have been sitting for a long time....

I would even remove the rail fuses and the small amp boards. And then power slowly. Not too slow because of the soft start resistor might over heat.

If I remember correctly.... No rail fuses and the top boards removed would draw about .6 amp for a correctly operating power supply. 120v

A correctly operating 500 with rail fuses and amp boards is About 1 amp or so at idle . More than 1.2 amps is bad.

That's at 120 volts. You can just use a ratio to of 120/220 to get the amps at 220.

My idle wattage is about 130 watts with all boards and fuses in place. You can do the math for current at 220v.

Careful power them up, they have some really large caps that need to form....

Jk

The one set I have made for the USA by E/V used CANADA to Mfg the Cabinets. They were then shipped to E/V and Assembled in Michigan with the E/V Drivers.

In the Denmark Case...The drivers from E/V were sent over there and assembled for sale in Denmark. I must say the Cabinet work from Denmark is Better then CANADA.

No..they only drive 4 15" Low end drivers no sweat but I have a power monitor that shows RMS out put and they have peaked to 600 watts or Progarm watts...no sweat.

I also have a BGW 750E running in mono 1600 Watts for one Sub. The other subs are self powered

Excellent advice.. You don't want to slam them "Sangamo" Caps after they have been sitting for a while.:D

Marantz made a limited amount of the Model 500. I was lucky to have been able to buy one new back in the day.

Circa when?
Don't own one, but I think I'd like to.
Always loved Marantz styling.

Believe me - I'm not going to come even close to the wall outlets with those, before I have had them to a really qualified tech. Usually I do most minor repairs myself, but in more serious cases (and this is a serious case) I use a superqualified tech - which is a specialist in that model 500. He is fully aware of the risks of just plugging in and all that. No - I'll do what it takes to do a safe maneuvre here. But thanks for warning me :D

BTW: One of the 500-amps were already switched on and played music in both channels with no problems when I came to pick them up - so it is only the other one, which could be a real hazard. Still both will be checked - measured - and cuttled before powering up here at home.

Can't remember the exact date but it was in the middel of the 500 run in the 70's. Still have all the manuals. The Box was lost a long time ago in several different moves.
