Huayucaltia - Live, free, safe, legal d/l's

I'm starting this thread as a general information thread for an amazing band, Huayucaltia. They were admitted to the Live Music Archive, just yesterday. I've been aware of their music since the middle of the 80's, when I saw them on a local junior college public television broadcast. On that program, they were posed around an old west style corral, in cultural apparel, playing this music. The scene was an indoor stage, with the corral as a prop set. They played the music as if live. I was captivated by what I was hearing back then. Many years later, I saw a concert advertised with thier performance, and I asked a gentleman, Ciro Hurtado, the artistic director, and lead guitarist, if I might record. Permission was granted; recording happened.
Then, late last week, some dozen years later, I asked Ciro if he'd permit these files to be hosted at LMA, and he accepted, and granted permission.

I'm also going to post the various shows that I've recorded to this same general information thread.

The music,... is native to all of the Americas, from South America, Central America, Mexico, and North America. It is entirely reminiscent of Andean mountain music, as a generalized genre. But it is so much more than that. It is strongly influenced by Afro-Latin rhythms, ancient mayan and inca lore, acoustic flamenco guitar, long jams with individual solos. It is a very lively, colorful music; beautiful, mystic, involving.
There are some amazing acoustic instruments that add a layer of color like no other. Yes, there is a synthesizer keyboard that carries some fundamentals, but, all of the oddities in noises are natural acocustic instrments that are described being mezzo-Mayan, or, ancient in their lineage. These instruments lay down an incredible soundscape.

I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Their music is incredible, their musicianship is top shelf; in fact, Ciro Hurtado was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2015 for his recording of Ayahuasca Dreams (if that title doesn't suggest enough...).

Here is a sampling of their music, and their amazing song Chasqui - the Messenger, a 13minute mind trip:

Since the Early and Late shows in each concert have different set content, I'm listing them as separate shows. I've still got some uploads to do to finish populating other shows. Check back for changes.
The links in this post pertain to the Early Show files of the same show date as above.

Disclaimer regarding the Early Show "Matrix" file set, above:
I had a microphone go bad on me in the early show. It was one of my pair of DPA4022 compact cardioid mics.
This failing mic caused havoc in the ambient recording. AcckKKK!
I'm a fan of ambient recordings, and record the house mix source as a backup. The house mix is never mixed for recording; its the house sound mix. Hit or miss - good and bad. When good, they're nice,.. but when anything less, their bland, and or imbalanced. They've saved my a.. more than once.
So, I opened the DSD files,to 24.192 .wav, and attempted to fix the problem in the ambinet source, so that I could at least hear it. It was just listenable.
I then got the wild hair to open the SBD feed, and upsample it to 24.192 as well.
One 24.192 file is huge. I had to open two in order to do my mix.
I got lots of the rainbow color spinning wheel, and lot of stinkeye from Sarge for hosing the family computer for extended periods. I won't be doing 24.192 again, until I get a super computer.

The result helped tremendously in giving me something to listen to of the early show. It is not for a critical listening experience, but, does make a nice general background listen.
This Matrix mix is as close to the ambeint source as I will be uploading.

Amazing stuff and right in our musical wheelhouse at chez flyz. We just watched Chasqui-The Messenger on the main system and loved every second. Many, many thanks to you for doing this.

OK,.... all of the images in this thread are taken from this particular show, that I'm about to post.
In all instances of these shows, the venue, stage, PA system, band, all aspects ahve been the same. So the images are sort of universal use.

See below for what is my best recording, I feel.

Wow, I can post again? I've tried since yesterday to get this post in.

Updating....
The file set for 2009-june-13 is complete, both early and late shows. Included are the ambient stereo recording, the house mix feed, and a mix of both of those sources, the "Matrix".
Some of this stuff went onto LMA at a time when I couldn't post here. So, if interested, check the posts higher up in the thread. I'm not sure what and which was posted in the downtime.

I have another update pending, and will post about it when its ready.
Up next, the last of the shows that I'll be uploading, from 2006.

I only did an ambient recording, no other source.
I applied a slight EQ curve to correct for the DeadRat windsocks being used; image included below, of settings.

DPA 4022 stereo pair, as XY coincidental stereo -> SD 722 at 2448
From over the top of the center of courtyard fountain; cantalevered from behind fountain, to over the top of the fountain, to gain room away from people in the sweet spot in the hall.

DPA 4022 XY conicidental stereo -> Grace V3 -> Edirol R09 2448 (to compare ADC of SD-722 vs Edirol R09)
From over the top of the courtyard fountain.

2448: https://archive.org/details/Huayucaltia2006-09-09.late.dpa4022.2448
1644: https://archive.org/details/Huayucaltia2006-09-09.late.dpa4022.1644

Both of the last two shows, 2006-09-09, early and late shows, have had this EQ pass, to correct for having to use DeadRat windscreens.
A2_EQ-settings_early:late.png
And, both recordings were done from over the top of the fountain, centered over the top of it. I had the mic stand placed across the return channel for the fountain, spanning it, behind the fountain, and reaching with the boom arm, back forward over the fountain top, centered. This was done to get the mics as high, and as far from the audience, as I could get it, in the sweetspot of the hall.
