I'm thinking of buying a Dual 1019.

Thanks for all the replies and info I'm leaning towards the 1219, just sent the seller and email.

I'm going to look at the 1019 Sunday evening and perhaps the 1219 later in the week. I apologize for all the questions but just want to be informed about these tables before I buy. Can you run your microfiber brush over the record while it's spinning, to clean it with the smaller platter? Must admit I'm nervous about an idler wheel but hearing all the positive stories about them helps.

Of course. You have nothing to worry about regarding the platter. Within the first couple of records you won't even notice the difference. It's a great platter in fact, very heavy and the combination of it and the idler drive is a big reason the table sounds so great.

Don't worry about the idler. If it needs to be replaced not a big deal. Easy to get replacements and install.

The 1019 is a great table!

Thanks I really appreciate the advise, I do find the 1019 is a very unique looking table.

And the best base(imo) is on the table you're considering. You will never regret buying it.

I have had a variety of tables through here, currently 2 direct drive Technics, a direct drive Lab-400, and a Dual 1209.

The 1209 is the table in the family room where wife & I do our music listening. Others are scattered here and there, but the 1209 gets the most use. You'll like it.

A nice thing about the 1019 is that heavy platter. There is NO risk of a 7 lb platter being slowed down when using a brush. And watching it spin for 2 minutes or more after the motor shuts off can be fascinating. In a nerdy sort of way...

What is your opinion of the Shure M75 Type D cart that is on it, with a lightly used stylus?

The Shure M75 is a great cartridge for the 1019. There are lots of stylus options available making it extremely versatile. I'd say it's the most versatile cartridge Shure has ever offered.

In the Dual nomenclature the Shure "M75 Type D" it's equivalent to the original Shure M75-6S. The body is naturally an M75 one, but the stylus was a bottom M75 line one,
It has a bonded conical stylus tracking between 1,5-3 grams; the 1019 deserve a much better stylus. I've heard a M75 Type D on a friend of mine Dual 1226 and there was a big difference in the transparency and soundstage when we mounted my Acutex M312 IIISTR on its Dual 1226; the M75 Type D appeared immediately clearly inferior to the Acutex (normally mounted on mine Dual 1219, an excellent match to my ears).
From 1968 on, the Dual 1019 here in Europe was originally sold with the Shure M75MMG, that was replaced during the 70's by the M75G Type 2, a surely better conical stylus that M75-6S: nevertheless IMHO the 1019 deserve a futher better stylus like the elliptical N75ED T2 or an hyperellitical N75HE. For both you can find good aftermarket versions made by Jico or the N75HE made by Vividline at LP Gear. With a little more than 80 $ you will hear a big difference if compared with N75-6S you have now. My 2 cents.

The N75-6 stylus may have been a low cost alternative to the more refined nude elliptical found in the M75ED, but it is no slouch. I have several of them and they are excellent sounding and track extremely well. The "-6" suffix indicates a .6 mil conical tip which extracts more of the higher frequencies than the more common .7 mil stylus tips. Another advantage is its' medium compliance, making it more suitable to a wider range of tone-arms and particularly suitable to record changers such as the Dual 1019

The N75-6, N75-6S and N75B are all the same. After-market replacements are for the most part .7 mil conical tips. The only after-market N75-6 or N75B with .6 mil tips are produced by JICO.
