IMF Super Compact 2 Restoration help!

Hey guys! Im restoring a pair of IMF Super Compact 2. Ok lets start with the problems first.

Problem:
so the speakers dosent play all the details of a song, the speakers seems to have problems with the 4 inch driver and the domed tweeter. I think its mostly because that the foam around the 4inch is damaged and have been played with the foam damaged. The domed tweeter seems to be pretty weared out (probably because it 30years old). im pretty sure that they need to be replaced rather then refoamed. I think that the 8inch bass element is still good but its a bit hard to hear if its bad when the others are bad.

What i need help with:

Im wondering if i should replace the 4inch and tweeter with either something modern and similar or get some really close used ones, or should i refoam them? I probably should replace the capacitors too.

I dont have much expirience with Speakers but im familiar with some electronics and fixing stuff.

Tips, Info and help is much apriciated! thanks - Hacon.

i dont know if its the right one. also found a kit for refoaming the 4inch:

Hi, this is not the right coil for your model of Tweeter, be sure it's really dead, unscrew it to see the number written on.Probably Audax or maybe Peerless? The mid foam should be the one. Order a cap kit from Façon acoustics,Falcon sell the Monacor as replacement for the mid.

Thank you very much for the info, appreciate it very much. Ill order the foam and see if it will fix the midrange, and find a replacement for the tweeter but i wont do that before testing the speaker with new foam. I will get back to you guys soon with an update!

Cheers, - Hacon

And ofcourse the cap kit, almost forgot.

Thank you very much for answer. Im stoked to hear them with new tweeters. This is my first repair job on any speakers. Im quite pleased how every thing went. Im 17years old but very interested in high quallity sound and music so this wont be my last speaker repair/build.

These are an excellent starting point! I fully refurbished a pair I had, with new foams on the mids, new tweeters and new capacitors on the crossovers. The results were well worth it. They're an excellent speaker and, if you like those, they have a very similar sound to the much bigger models if you ever get your hands on them.

My dad bought these speakers back in the day and my brother has been using them the last couple of years but they havent played great. So when my brother moved out i said to my dad that i can fix them and use them myself. he offerd to pay for all the parts so he can come listen to them in the basement where they will stay in my room :)

Hi, from father to your brother and now to you, this is great worth to fix, enjoy these are very good to begin with and educate your ears to natural and uncolore sound.

Hi guys been a while, i finally replaced the tweeters on the speakers. They sound fantastic. Got the tweeters from falconaqoustics. They sound great with my acuphase amp.

Just out of interest what have you done with the one remaining working tweeter that you removed ?

Anyone replace the foam inside the port? Mine has turned to dust in spots.

I need to do mine as well. I have some that I think will work. I thing a medium density open cell foam is best. Look for
an Uposltery store in your area and look at what they have for foam, or if there is a foam store near you.

Just did one of mine, good news is the grey foam isn't all the way back, its about 7/8" thick.
Behind it is the yellow foam the entire cabinet is filled with.

I had a piece 1" thick and it looks better than the old foam.

I'm going to tidy it up by adding some glue to the edge so it doesn't pop out.

I also am letting the glue spots from the grill holder soak with goo gone on them. Sat for 30 minutes and wiped off.
