IMG_0586.jpg I had owned a pair of RS-IIb in the past and sold them to try other speakers. I always thought they were some of the better performing speakers I had owned and hoped to find another pair. As luck would have it - a pair of RS-IIa speakers was listed in northern Va. I made the drive yesterday to pick them up. Former owner didn't have bass controller, but I have one coming from another site. Hooked speakers up yesterday afternoon to confirm there are no issues - and all drivers work perfectly. Even without bass controller, they sound very nice. Very happy to have a pair of Infinity speakers again.

As you no doubt remember from your original pair, they will sound much better with the bass controller.

Thank you for the replies. I am anxious to get the bass controller, as I do recall it improving speaker performance. I also feel fortunate to find another pair within driving distance. It was a 10 hr round trip, but I felt the drive was worth it. I've tried many speakers over the last 7 to 8 years. For me, these have been among the best - plus I also like their style. I moved them into system they will be part of last night. Just waiting for the bass controller now.

That's an awesome room and set up. Congratulations (again).

Also, which way did you head north? You might have drove by my house! Just off RT 29 N, near Lynchburg, VA.

Thank You for compliment. I drove up Rte 85 and Rte 95. Left my house at 3:45 am - so drive up was hassle free. Drive back was not so good on Rte 95 as it was mid morning and traffic was bad. I almost came back Rte 29 - as I know it well driving to upstate Pa where my family still lives. Very pretty area.

    Nice grab.
This is the first I have heard regarding a bass controller. An internet search pulled up car stereo bass controller units. Would you be so kind as to enlighten me on the benefits of a bass controller for Infinity speakers?
I have a pair of Kappa 8's and wonder if they would benefit. Will delete post if this is too far off topic.
    Thx.
    Bob

The RSIIa&b shipped with an electronic tone control/bass controller that provided frequency compensation specific to the woofer/box combination in the RS2s

You got a good one. Stick with her.

I shouldn't complain. I have this setup in the living room, but I know I can't push it further. The L166s are currently rotated out in favor of ADS L980s, but same nominal size. She gets uppity if the grills are off though.

Came home this evening and found my bass controller was delivered today. Cosmetically very clean and works perfectly. Very glad to have the whole system now. Hope to have time this weekend to determine settings which sound the best.

It'd be an interesting comparison, your ren 90's to the rs IIa, I mean, go for it! :evil

I've never had opportunity to hear the ren 90 speakers. I have owned Kappa 9 and Kappa 8.1 speakers and feel the RS-IIa is a step up in comparison - though I really enjoyed the Kappa 9 speakers a lot.
