Interconnect length

I have a set of Sennheiser hd600 headphones. They have the manufacturer supplied 10’ cord. I happen to have an old, no name, 10’ extension cord laying around and tried it out. The sound quality deteriorated significantly using the extension.

I’m wondering if using a longer, higher quality, cord could eliminate the degradation, or if 10’, or so, is about the optimum length for a h/p interconnect.

I use a Grado 15 foot extension cord with my Sennheiser 580's. High quality 1/4" connectors at both ends, heavy duty cable, had it for many years, sounds great.

Appreciate the thought. Maybe a better cable would do the trick.

Shorter is almost always better, as is fewer connectors.
