Ipod dock or connecting it to the USB port

Hi, i have a very nice Ipod dock connected to my HT, since i'm getting a Denon AVR that has the front USB/Ipod port, i'm torn between playing my Ipod through the dock or just plugging it into the USB/Ipod port when i want to play it.

Which why would you play the Ipod?

Use the dock, it charges while you play. If your dock has a built-in DAC, even better.

Yeah, i'm inclining more towards that. How do i know if my Dock has DAC? It's connected to the receiver via an RCA cable, so i guess that constutes having a DAC?

Most docks don't have a DAC, they depend on the DAC in the iPod. The Pure i20 has one, as do the Peachtree products. I believe Wadia also makes one, but I'm not 100% on that.
