Miles Davis ~ We Want Miles

The only Miles concert I ever attended at one of Chicago's finest venues, should have caught some early 70's shows also.

Bob,

That was a great year to see Miles live, wasn't Marcus Miller his bassist for that show ?

Recall seeing Miles 3 or 4 times at Kool Jazz Fests, maybe Mellon or Newport, the Newport may have combined with Kool at some point, forget, it was long ago. Those outdoor shows on the lawn were the greatest; we all brought food and everyone around shared their food, really wonderful audiences, and long all day concerts for a few days in a row.

When seeing Marcus with him, the bass sound was lush, thick and supporting the band like they were ontop a cushiony cloud that flowed like waves in the ocean. His bass soundstage was so extremely wide from stage right to stage left it just seemed to anchor & create a solid & enormously hugh foundation for the band. Stellar production. Big bass, yet not overpowering, and finely balanced. Made the day for me to hear Marcus excel the sound & a live recording should have been made from that show - it was in Philly during eighties, likely '84 to '89 sometime.

Howdy brotha!!! Yes, you got it right, dynamics! Marcus, Stern, Foster, Bill Evans. It was groovin' scene at the best club in Chicago. I lived down the street and practically lived at the Park West throughout the 70's & 80's with all the JM, Corea, Hammer, Ponty, King Crimson, Fripp solo, Belew solo concerts and many others.

So cool, so close to home for you then, so awesome !

Cheers Good Buddy !
:beerchug:

Thanks my friend, the neighborhood near Wrigley gentrified with sports bars & plastic beer cups pushing the artists, musicians, poets, photographers and alike out. I would never have left if that not happened.

Cheers Brother! :beerchug:

Don't front... You know damn well you couldn't resist at least trying to pop-lock or spin on a square of laminate flooring to "Rockit" back in the '80s. This one brought in quite a bit of business to chiropractors via disclocated shoulders blades and cervical vertebrae fractures.
Guilty as charged. Hopefully our son will turn out to be a better dancer than his old man. :D

This New album releases in May 2017. All new songs.

Reformation of Larry Coryell's Eleventh House, and yes, the recording is featuring Alphonse Mouzon before his passing.

Same band line-up that ended the previous famous incarnation, except now, not sure if Mike Mandel (keys) appears on it; addition of Julian Coryell (gtr & synth-gtr) appears.

Not sure who keys player is/will be, or if the band will continue at all forward with a different drummer in the future. May go without keys, although Mouzon plays some keys (or all) on the album.

The band played a week live at the Blue Note in NYC over the summer of either 2015 or 2016 (we should get vids, so far can't find any).

Link here has 1 and 1/2 minute clips of all 11 tunes on the album. Not much is known about this yet.

2nd link here (youtube) is a video of this new reformed band playing 1 of the new tracks in the studio. Cool tune in 7, alternating with 6/8, and proves 7 can swing as well as 4 when done right (ala Brubeck or Cobham, et all). 3 min promo vid. The 1st comment under youtube vid is from Alphonse himself, saying the release is to coincide with the bands new 2017 tour, (and the album may be on Mouzon's own label, Tenacious Records, but not sure about that yet).

So glad they are releasing this new album soon. Notice band name now uses numbers "11th House" instead of word "Eleventh" previously.

Fusioneers here should enjoy this one !

Always have a cd of Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour in the car, and it's my fave Brand X album.

Heard it again today (for the thousands of times), and just love how the production captured Phil Collin's finest drumming of his career.

The searing interplay between his hihats and snare drum comes across so clearly, as well as all other aspects of his performance; even all the onslaught of precise ghost (grace) notes on the snare drum are very evident and not backgrounded into obscurity in the mix.

The engineers captured this interplay so well it recalls the sound of the shearing metal exchange of two swordfighters on a pirate ship as their blades clink together; like in a Hollywood movie of the old wooden sailing ships' soundtracks on a hi-end home theater system. Although the analagous examples differ in their nature, both are a brilliant, shimmering & sparkling aural experience. Long live hi-fi and fusion !
