I first heard Dan Balmer with Tom Grant's early records, it was kind a pre-smooth jazz, not bad at all.
I have that cd as well as Dan Balmer With Chris Lee & George Mitchell - Don't Forget The Way Home. He is not so well known, but an accomplished player for sure.
Sadly the European scene gets far less fusion accolades than the US has. And yet there is a ton of excellent stuff to collect and discover, here is one such artist. Volker Kriegel & Mild Maniac Orchestra – Octember Variations
from 1976, and re-released in 2011, from the once prolific MPS label, the label that brought us George Dukes' early solo work, jasper Van't Hoff, Didier Lockwood, Michal Urbaniak, Freddy Hubbard, and many others, MPS also had a slew of jazz greats from the non fusion tradition, anyway, Volker Kriegel is an excellent guitarist, and a fusion pioneer

Just a short five hour drive north of me I believe, but I was only 17 at the time. I don't think the old Vega I had at the time would have made the trip LOL!
