Jazz Fusion Playlist

It exceeded my expectations given the broad scope of musical talent that was involved, but the end results are pretty decent, these all star things are not always as good as the intentions of the gathering.

Very well said about all-star lineups, some work & some fail badly, assembling stars that don't line up musically, without chemistry. The Weather Report Kennedy tribute was anti-climatic, especially since some of the group players were past members of WR and others on WR tribute albums. But, Zawinul was the core of WR, it was his presence that made the difference.

Will have to check out School of the Arts, looks like that one works !

CB,

Whom would've guessed in this era there was outlet for all of us to share playlists, concert experiences, videos and discuss jazz-rock fusion, for the minimalist scurvy bunch we are ! Thanks for this gathering place.

Can we all qualify as extended Cacti family ?

Cheers Good Buddy !

Whenever I demo a new speaker this fusion album will show any weakness in a speaker system ,it was recorded 100% pitch perfect for every note on the synclavier ,most don't dig Zappa jazz due to his use of extended polyrythms and insane time Sig's but to my ears it's gold .

So cool... JB Blow By Blow & Zappa fans !!!

From one of the earliest jazz-rock fusion albums, Frank Zappa's "Hot Rats", here's 2 versions (I posted these before) of the famous song - "Peaches En Regalia" (3 and 1/2 minutes) ...1st up is album cut, 2nd up is same tune by Talichova Komorni Filharmonie (Ivanovic), Prague 2012. This one firmly executes Zappa's love of classical music, which he composed many works. downbeat magazine (rarely so) had FZ on a cover stating he was the greatest modern music composer since Duke Ellington. Still wished FZ & Marco Minnemann could have played together, seems like instant chemistry. Hot Rats lp cover shows Ruth crawling out of a hole - Underwood is one of the greatest vibraphone players (FZ's notation was tuff to play) & husband Ian a synth pioneer. FZ concerts often ran 6 hours for his fans delight, and Dweezil reassembles tours today ! Here goes again ! -

The New Tony Williams Lifetime featuring Allan Holdsworth - Live at the Village Gate.

Got to listen to it now as promised (cd). Only 30 minutes long, recording extremely poor, but performance hot. Same lineup as Believe It players, this 1975 live. Listed trax couple posts ago - 1st song Mr Spock notably worse quality, then next 4 songs quality a bit better. AH stands front & loud in mix for guitar fans. This one is only for deep fans due to how it was recorded; it may release in the future all cleaned up if someone tweeks it in the studio & more so if has the original tape. Liner notes say it was remastered from live FM broadcast tape (!?!).

The ONLY original, one and only J-Z !!! Joe Zawinul.

("Jay-Z" hip-hopper means little, at the most, to us fusioneers; can hip right down the hopper) !
:D

Cool...fellow BS & T fans ! Yes !

Here's one of their songs you might like (1973). It has a soft piano intro until 1:30 time stamp, then it all KICKS in for 4 more minutes. Funk, synths, guitar solo with voice unison, horns. Big name players. Really deserves a listen thru to end, short tune.

Blood Sweat & Tears, tune "Inner Crisis".

As mentioned last week, here it is "In Search of Ancient Gods" Absolute Elsewhere featuring Bill Bruford.

Ben Mink
- Another obscure album. Cameron Hawkins and Martin Deller of FM fame on this one.
- You may remember them from FM who toured with Rush a lot in the 70's - 80's.
