JBL 1401ND 14" woofers

Just bought a pair of supposedly NOS 1401ND in boxes. They do look fresh, but foam surrounds are falling apart. I already have a pair of the LE14H-1's, and I have been looking for the right speakers to use them in.

In researching the 1401ND, looks like it's a version of the 1400ND with different mounting flange, and without the gold plated binding post. The 1401ND were used in the $17,000 DMS-1 pro monitors, and in a few of the K2-xxxx line. The 1400ND shows up in the K2-7500, looks like.

There's no way I will be able do build any DIY version of any of the K2- series speakers, as I won't even know where to find those horns and the compression driver, crossovers, etc.

What would you do with a pair of such woofers? I was thinking of substituting in one of the JBLs that uses the LE14H-1 woofer. Last picture is stock, they look magnificent!

I would do some serious searching to find the other components to build something like the K2 series.

If you can find a second pair, I'd seriously be thinking of how to fabricate a pair of K2-9500s...

Regards,
Gordon.

LOL...finding a second pair would be like hitting the Lottery. Would the LE14H-1 or -3 fulfill that role?

What is the difference between these woofers and the 1400 Pro? Or are they even similar?

From the pictures I googled, the 1400PRO seems to have the clothe accordion surround, but I don't know what the specs are....

I just found a LHF thread that said the 1400ND and 1400 Pro share the same frame/motor. The thread mentioned being able to recone the 1400 Pro as a 1400ND.

I know where I can get some working 1400ND drivers is why I asked

Nice...what do you plan to do with them if you do end up with the 1400NDs...??

Probably find the other parts to build a pair of K2 S7500 or similar.

All my speakers are 1970's or earlier technology. I want some "newer" horn speakers:)

You need to establish the T/S parameters and a response curve up to about 2000 hz...they might be useable to about 1200 hz where you could cross them to a a2344/2426 combo.
