JBL L77 info request

In my on -going quest to replace ny burned up vintage equipment I picked up a pair of L77's for dirt cheap. Cabs are fairly rough, but they work fine. Any info on these? I went to the Lansing heritage site, but only post was on the crossover schematic. I'm pretty sure they are nominal 8 ohms, but what's the power rating. Any info appreciated.

Thanks for the help, Wardsweb. Once again the fellow Texas boys come through. Anyone with experience of this model. Looks pretty much entry level--mid-seventies, perhaps?

Those are very nice sounding speakers. Least to me. Only prob is those yellow surrounds around the drivers are supposed to be white. Means they are hard and brittle.

If they were mine I would get the Proper Foams and clean em up Fix em an use em.

Pretty sure they were made from the mid 1960's through the 70's

Forgot to mention. I used mine on tubes.

In case you are not aware, there is a very comprehensive website backing up our discussion forum. The "Library" has 3000 scanned pages of Altec and JBL product literature. For example, there are two sparate spec sheets just for the L77 here:

http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/specs/home-speakers/1967-l44-l47.htm

and here:

http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/specs/home-speakers/1971-l77.htm

If you want to see them within the context of the overall product lineup of the time, check out any of the catalogs from the 1960's on the following page:

http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/catalogs/jbl-catl.htm

Specs on the components can be found in the component catalogs like this one:

Yeah, those surrounds are a vintage amber, Grumpy, and it looks like I'll have to introduce myself to the joys of refoaming. And, no, Don, I wasn't aware. But fortuntely I'm trainable, more or less. Thanks for the links.
Feel like I scored--$15.00 for the pair.

You said the cabinets were a bit rough. If the grills are the same way, I do have a set, if you're interested.

Those woofers and passive radiators will definitely need refoaming, if my experience with these carries through. Almost every time, either the surround is cracked, or it's hardened to the point to where the cone can barely move. Neither way will sound very good!

As far as refoaming, you'll need a surround SPECIFICALLY made to fit the JBL LE10. This surround has a "thinner" roll width than most 10" woofers, and will fit both the LE10 woofer and the PR10 passive radiator.

BTW: I have a buddy who has accumulated a BUNCH of LE10 foam surrounds (as in, a STACK of them nearly a FOOT tall!), from a repair shop that closed (owner retiring). If anyone wants, I can probably get some from him, much cheaper than most places want for them... he's handed me LE10 surrounds before, an inch-thick stack at the time. Anyone interested, just PM me...

Regards,
Gordon.

Wardsweb--worked on the L77's a bit last night. Radiators and woofers need work. Woofer excursion at present-- I venture-- measures in nanometers. Would apper to have OD'd on Viagra. And Gorden, you have a PM. BTW, you still have that beautiful Stereotech?

If anyone has a logo for this model's grill let me know, I need one. The one logo on there is the older cone and ball one. I am also looking for a new grill clip. The metal bipost type.

Thanks

Bo
