Jensen RP107 Horn Tweeter Pair - One is weak - Why?

Old alnico tweeter horns pulled from an Admiral stereo console. One is weak compared to the other, perhaps half the volume. One measures 7.3 ohms, the other 7.7 ohms DCR.

Perhaps damage to one voice coil from too much volume? Problems with magnets?

Have you looked on google for any schematics?

I’m assuming they were originally 16ohm?

I would doubt it’s the motor (mag), pull the horns off the driver and take a look! :)

Some people do like them but I have had a few and found them lacking in clean high end.

I had dropped one and it had the same problem. Someone suggested that the drop had discharged the magnet.

That is quite plausible. I've seen that from various Alnico magnets over the years.

If that's the case- you may be able to send it to a speaker repair shop that has a remagnetizing machine, and get that fixed. I know Great Plains Audio has one- but I can't think of anyone else off hand, right now.

Gordon.

Thanks for info.

I'll pull the diaphrams and look for any sign of damage.

I do see that Parts Express has replacement diaphragms "GRS RDIA1 Diaphragm for Old Version 4"x10" Midrange Horn or Similar Heppner/Foster-type Driver. Part # 280-051" at $8.90 each. Diaphram dimensions seem right, even though these horns are only 3" x 7 3/8". And these are 8 ohms.

If that doesn't fix it, oh well, not like these are rare and sought after. Been fooling aound with old console drivers for open baffles on old Magnavox 6V6 amps (8802, 175) and I liked the smaller size.
