Hello all. Been lurking for awhile and haven't posted much yet. Here is my system.
Rotel RX-602 receiver. Teac CD-P650. Akai AP-A201 turn table. Into EPI A120'speakers.
I bought the receiver 3 years ago on whim with the intention of replacing my Yamaha home theater receiver that was just playing music. It didn't fit on the shelf and so it never went into duty, then. Eventually I caught the itch to set it up in my basement and create a listening space. I bought some small bookshelf JBL speakers off Craig's List and hooked up my iPhone through a head phone to RCA jack and started on my way. That was about 6 months ago.
I have a lot of CDs still so I wanted to buy a CD player. I set out to find a CD player on that auction site. When I was trying like mad to snipe a CD player on one my regular forays into Craigslist I found the EPI speakers.
They were cheap and I remembered the name from here. I went and listened to them and was very happy with the sound. They have the original inverted tweeters, but the woofers are not original. I pulled the woofer out to try and figure out what they were and took a look around. It looked like the important stuff was already done so I don't have to buy a soldering iron yet. I'll eventually get new woofers from Human Speakers, but I'm so happy with the current sound that I'm afraid that I'd not like them afterwards.
After many failed atempts at sniping an Onkyo 7030 (it was the CD player that the person was using when I bought my speakers) I was going to pony up for a new one. But, I always kept getting drawn to the Teac because of the USB port. I found a scratch and dent on Amazon for the Teac at a good price. When I hooked it up, there was not a noticeable difference to me. I couldn't be happier.
I was going to hold off on getting a turn table for awhile, but I was at a party with some friends and we ended up discussing stereos. One of my friends had recently bought a new turn table and gave me his old one which he had had been given from one of our other friends. For free it sounds awesome. It helps me not have to buy a cheap turn table to get started and save up for something else. I'm now officially hooked to this hobby.
I'm now going to thrift shops and other second hand stores looking for the hidden treasures that I keep reading about. I've also been given the the ok to buy something to replace the nesting tables that I'm using as a rack. I also need pictures on the walls.
Have a great day,
Joe
Here are the pictures. They look like heck because I used an iPad in poor lighting.
