well i finaly got tired of finding the newest/correct plugins for foobar
and decided to try jriver for audio only
then i smacked myself since i already have a licensed cyber dvd
but ithats more about vid than audio

so i grabbed jriver set all the associations for audio only

i had already move a coupled hundred gigs of music to a dedicated usb hdd
it took hours and hours
i'm trying to get all my digital tunes in one place, i'm really paying for being messy atm.

yes i can play them all, i can tell jrirver to find them all, but i'm planing on a new audio pc in the very near future,
so i am moving all to one usb hdd, that will then be cloned for a back up

jriver so far is just ok
it sounds good, just a handful of clicks and so far plays all from sacd to just normal flac
no screwing around with most current plugins or settings, unlike foobar
but the library has taken 4 hours to do a few thousand songs[ all lossless]
this is just a trial
i'm building a new pc shortly
[ i already have it, its old too but newer than this one, i,m getting older, no gaming, so an older pc with good cooling and gfx\hdmi is all i need ]

it will do, email, browsing, shopping, tunes and vid, podcast ect, ect
installed trial of jriver, it took 4 hours to tag, meta, art, genre, my files, a partial trial of 4000, tunes

output is to an emotiva dac
but i dread setting all this up again, tunes will take days.
i'm not looking at multiple play lists yet just a single library
and having to pay for upgrades
but i'm gonna give it a go

the whole idea here is to keep MY audio away from "HER" mp3 audio/ video
it will keep it simple for her
all her audio/video will got to avr via hdmi and vlc

mine, audio only will go to 2 chan via hi def/ usb/ dac

but , man your talking hours and hours and hours, let alone a backup

WHat you describe Seems slow to me as well. I've been using JRiver for a few years now and have found it to be very robust software, far more than just OK. YMMV tho.

12 gig of ram
i have read of others having the same issue on the jriver forum
and it seems to be hit and miss, even on the same hdd
good one time and very slow the next

right now my music spans 4 drives
i'm moving it all to 1
that is taking hours
then i am building the library in jriver
also taking hours

when this is done i will export the library
to go in the new machine ... well at least thats plan so far

It seems to me that JRiver does some in-depth Analysis of your music as you first import it, for their adaptive volume leveling or whatever it is called. I wonder if that is slowing down your process.

As I remember it only happens once.

I know that once it is done your assorted playlists have a normalized volume and you do not have to jump up and adjust the level every time a song changes.

I have moved on from JRiver so I am not really in the loop, (as if I ever was)

this resolved the terribly slow file transfers from ext usb drive to external usb drive [apperntly quite a common issue in win 10]
instead of 500 to 700 KB in to hit 30-35MB with no pauses

will have to see if it helps the jriver library when i get a chance
