Just got my SX-1250......

Kamakiri

The New Dynamic
Arrived pretty much intact with the exception of a few chips on one of the metal cooling fins. I dunno....I was just expecting it to be......um....bigger

Maybe having the G-series spoiled me to size :D. It's about the same size as a 9090DB, maybe just a bit wider. So how much bigger is the SX-1980? Is it as big as the G-22000? Am I compensating for something? Naaaah :)

size & heft

Hiya, Kam!
My 5590, which is the same as the 1250, has about 15 lbs. on my G-9700. The 5590/1250 weighs in at 64 lbs., 4 oz.
The SX-1980 weighs 93 lbs. The G-22000, together, weighs 88 lbs., or 92 lbs. BeatleFred just gave the weight of the 22000 as listed in the manual a week or so ago.
My biggest receiver, by weight, is the Concept 16.5, at 67 lbs. The Onkyo TX-8500 MkII is about 64 lbs, too.
Pop the top off that big guy, and you'll see the way the inside of a receiver SHOULD look like!

Pete

Mines just a baby weighin in at 63 pounds compared to the big Sansui.

The 1280 packs a wallop with 185 wpc!! It is a series newer than the 1250/5590 (gotta get my big guy in there).
Personally, I think the 1250 could have been rated at 180 wpc.
I have REALLY been taken by the Concept 16.5.
and the Onkyo
the kenwood
the yammie
the carver the sansui ...
real decisive here loaded on pain killers

See bully like grump says sx 1280 63 pounds, where are getting 93lb from ya old exagerattor you ;)

Hey Pete;

"The 1280 packs a wallop with 185 wpc!! It is a series newer than the 1250/5590 (gotta get my big guy in there)."

My SX-1980 user manual states:

Continuous power output of 270 watts per channel min. at 8 ohms from 20 to 20000 with no more then .03% distortion.

All that power with no fan needed, just hugh heak sinks.

That's the SX-1980 pumpin' 270x2. The 1280 was the no. 2 receiver, 185x2.
Which one y'all got?

Dagnabbit,
I thought the G-22000 was a big boy receiver, now I gotta go find a SX-1980 just to keep up. Oh,Me,Oh,My, will this madness ever end. Maybe I will just go out and find me a G-33000 and be King of the Hill :D

Super-big watt receivers??

Got me to wondering how many 200-plus wpc receivers there are. I have six 150-200 wpc receivers, one 130 wpc, & one 120 wpc receiver. The models I can think of are:
SA-1000, 330x2
G-3300, 300x2
2600, 300x2
SX-1980, 270x2
2500, 250x2
G-22000, 220x2
SR-2004, 200x2 (Class G)
G-9700, 200x2
KR-9050, 200x2

I know there were only a very few, am I missing one or more?

2600 - 300WPC

2385 - 185 WPC

all the way donw to my lowely

2325 - 125 WPC

Dave

Yeah, I mentioned the Marantz.
The 2385 doesn't make the list, nor does the SX-1280.
We're wondering about 200 watts RMS or more per channel receivers.
Any others I didn't think of for that very select group?
I noticed than Sansui had 3 in that company!

Hi Kamakiri,

Congrats on the 1250. I own one myself. It is a great receiver. I find that it has all the power I want to hear.

Welcome to the ranks of Pioneer owners. I know you are a predominate Sansui man but this Pioneer will rock your world.

Enjoy!

Btw, I own three Sansui's, and two Pioneer's. I love them Sansui's myself.

Take care.

I think my G-9700 is the "prettiest" receiver I have! Gotta luv those big knobs.
I realized I only have the one Pioneer, the SX-5590, since I sold the very sweet upgraded 1050.
But I do have 3 Onkyos, of all things, and are they ever nice--or will be when the two big ones get new 'faces'. Yes, both of the big Onkyos were damaged in shipment and arrived with broken glass. The 8500 MkII monster also got some bent shafts and most of the pushbuttons were sheared off by the heavy glass that guillotined them.
Right now I can't even begin to even move them. Injured my back at work last Monday, luckily (??) just a sprain, 'we' think. Hurts like bejeebers still, despite hydrocodone & muscle relaxants.
Guys, if you get a chance, you should really try one of the big Onkyos. They are pretty, too! And a real "six pack" look inside.
