A lot of cleaning, with rotary wire brush etc.Nice set. How does it sound? How much cleaning did you need to do?

It was full of rust, but all better now!
Jeepers, I assumed it was electrogalvanized from the dull dark grey appearance ( where there wasn't rust ).500Bs sure are purdy, nice work!
Take safety precautions when wire brushing the chassis on Fishers, they're cadmium plated steel. Ammonia works pretty good to polish them up if the plating is still intact.
OK, I confess.Rust? I had a rusty KX-100 that I used chemicals to clean up. Do you have any 'before" pics?
Lookin good! If you want to freshen up the knobs, the brass caps are readily available on our favorite auction site.
I found brasso (which I think has ammonia) works nice on the chassis and meguiars aluminum polish on the faceplate (careful not to rub off the markings!).
I too thought cadmium was yellow and powdery. Wear a mask! As for those PECs, if you are inclined to do the 'RIAA' mod, would be replaced with silver mica caps. The IBBA/IBAM mods are great too. (for adjusting bias to match across the tubes and set at a level to prolong tube life but still sound good)
That FM receiver is among the best I've heard from that era. (of course, I haven't hear a lot!)
"'RIAA' mod" corrects the phono performance which as I understand it is slightly off.OK, I give.... "'RIAA' mod" ? "IBBA/IBAM mod"?
Never Dull Wadding works just as well as Brasso but has no abrasives in it. You can clean up the chassis with it, but just be advised to go lightly as the cadmium plating will be worn off and leave bare metal. Most all metal polishes have ammonia in them. It's a matter of abrasives in them. I'd clean it good with Scrubbing bubbles Shower/bath cleaner to get the heavy stuff off, then go over it lightly with the Never Dull, buff and add a coat of Carnauba wax (Johnsons Paste Wax, Butchers Bowling Alley Wax, or similar NON CLEANER straight wax.)
I saw a simple replacement for the PEC internals you had posted which I copied here for reference.Never Dull Wadding works just as well as Brasso but has no abrasives in it.
