Kenwood KA-9100 faint buzzing or ticking in right channel

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at a KA-9100 for a friend of mine with a right hand channel noise. It's very faint and comes and goes within every few seconds.

The sounds is independent of volume and exists regardless of the input selected.

To me it sounds like a bad transistor but I'd like to hear anyone else's experience with perhaps a common fault like this(?) with this amp?

The noise still exists when separating the power amp.

Thanks for any help!
Seb

The most common fault in the KA-9100 is probably a fault within the protection circuit, but that doesn't mean much. If you are getting a relay click, an issue in only one channel, and you've eliminated the preamp as a source of the noise by separating it from the amp... then your problem, at first glance, appears to be a failing transistor within the right channel amp.

To be sure you can swap the pre-out and amp-in with RCA jumpers and open the separate switch, if the problem stays in the same
amp side the problem is that one.
