I'm actually pretty impressed with this unit. I listened to it intermittently throughout the restore process. It's only like 13W/ Channel or so. After replacing the six 2sc458 and the main filter cap it started to come alive, but the kicker was the replacement of the carbon trimmers. The stock ones were poor quality, probably the flimsiest style I've seen. Both left and right channels had the bias dangerously floating all over the place. With the multi-turn added and the spec dialed in ,,,whooo it's on a whole nutha' level.

I also love the fact that this 2002 has pre ins & outs, I think that got scrubbed with the 2002A if I'm not mistaken. A pretty cool feature to have in this price range.

Edit: From a serviceability standpoint it's a straightforward job with the nifty inclusion of a removable bottom panel, unlike say a KA-3500 or the KA-1400G I did recently.

Very nice - looks like you found a mint one to boot! Beautiful.

    KA-6100, left, and a KA-8300, right. My KA-8100 is being recapped. IMGP5015.JPG

Found a KT-8300 to match my KA-8300. Waiiting for theIF band and Meter buttons which inadvertently got left behind. Will clean this baby up when it arrives.

I picked up a pair of Kenwood KL-5080 speakers in great shape for free off of CL and I think they sound pretty good, especially for the price. :music:

Great looking speaker. Do you know the vintage? You might want to recap them. Congratulations.

    Thanks..:)

I believe they are from 1972. I don't know about re-capping them but right now I am just enjoying them. They seem to get along great with my Vintage Marantz 2230.

    Top to bottom

    KA-8150 mostly original
    KA-9150 recapped/overhauled
    KA-9150 recapped/overhauled

The difference in the shades isn't quite as dramatic as in the photo.

I just added a KT 8300 to complement my beautiful KA 7100 (thanks to hopjohn!). They make a nice couple and sound wonderful! The picture is a bit ruined by the black Pioneer Elite cd player above. This is our bedroom system and it works well with my Paradigm Studio 40s.

I'm so happy you've got the 7100 back up and running again Gordon. Props to Randy as well. Cheers :beerchug:

A lightning caused power surged blew out two transistors on my 7100 shortly after I received it. Thanks to hopjohn and rbuckner, it's making beautiful music again.

Recently got a matching tuner to my KA-8004, but have a problem.
The sound sometime cuts out, like if I switch on muting, otherwise it's a really nice unit.
Perhaps hopjohn could chime in what the cause may be.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I take it that you are using the phono preamp in the L-1000C.
