Kenwood Rack Handles Reference Thread

ghettofunk

What wood Ken do?
It's talked about a fair amount and it seems like there's enough uncertainty about the topic that I decided to try to track down all the info I can on Kenwood rack handles that were available for units in the late 70's and early 80's. I've done some measuring and testing handles on different amps/tuners, but most of this is just the result of a lot of Googling and AKing.

I'll put what I've found below - if any of you have additional info/measurements/sources/corrections or anything else that would be helpful, please reply below and I'll update this post so the info stays at the top. I've linked to a source if I found one. If there isn't a source, it's either a result of me just trying it at home, or figuring it out through multiple pieces of info.

Hope this helps past, present and future Kenwood fans!

L-09M No handles were offered from Kenwood for the L-09M. These fit though.

Looks great, although the L-09M does not have a rack handle (factory or otherwise) and the KT-917/KA-907 handles won't work as they run the full length of the chassis, and won't be able to get past the rack-mountable face of the L-09M

I was going by this thread where it looks like someone put the handles from a 917/907 on the L-09M - though I have no personal experience with either model.

I've edited the original post to reflect your info and clarify. Thanks!

The L-09M has 4" between mounting centers at the rack mount cutouts. I bought some stainless wire drawer pulls and mounted them with stainless washers (and some nylon washers to protect the amp finish), and they are perfect.

Anyway, nice work on your list there.

Almost looks like the sides to a KR7600 or something similar ????? Can't tell dimensions
by the pics... Maybe the mono-s ??

After some looking last night as well as this morning...I still can't figure it out. For future reference, here is a pic of the D-9 rack handles:

The box shows shipping dimensions - so at least we know they aren't bigger than this:

SicMan - I liked the idea of the KR-7600, but after tracking down this pic of one with handles, they aren't the same:

The appearance is much like the D-90's that came with the KA-907 and the KT-917, but the handle itself is bigger on the D-9. The naming convention seems like it fits in the era of the D-5, D-7, and D-10, but I can't find mention of it in any catalogs. Though the fact that the D-9 runs the entire depth of the unit makes me think it's later and would fit in with the 40, 80, 90 series. I wrote the seller, so we'll see if they know anything (I'm not holding my breath).

Thanks for checking. They have a bit of an early 80's look. Rack Handles definately make them sound better!

Seller wrote me back stating they were for a KT-4007. I'm pretty sure that's not right at all (and is probably why the KT-4007 he tried to sell about a month ago still had the walnut sides on rather than these handles).

So...it's still a mystery...:dunno:

Thought these were an interesting addition to this KA-8300 (currently on eBay France - no afil). Not stock, but not bad at all - although unfortunately it looks like they tried a couple different sizes.

I'll let you know when they arrive. :D

I ended up being the only bidder. My guess is that they are the handles for the KR-7600 as shown earlier in this thread - if they are, I'll be thrilled. If not, oh well.

They are listed again, must have another pair.

I noticed that too - so I wrote the seller and asked if he had a number of D-5, D-7, and RD-6 pairs, since he keeps reposting the same pics. He never wrote back, but from the looks of it, he'll likely continue to post sets of those handles until he runs out or they stop selling.

Time to accessorize some Kenwood gear!

Just bought 2 sets of the D-7's from that seller. Now I only need one set of D-90's..... oh, and maybe a set of CB-8K cabinets.
