KT88 for mc275. -SED Winged C or Gold Lion ?

Although I have never had the pleasure of owning a MC275 (all my Mac gear is SS), I have owned a Citation II for a number of years. Out of the current lot of available new production tubes, the Gold Lion Re-Issue would be the one I would chose. The Chinese tubes just don't last very long. If you can find them, the GE 6550A is the best viable option, but they are not cheap.

The GEs are what I have in there now and have been for the last 20 years or so. But that's all the history I know of for this amp. Might be longer.

Holy Cats!
Yes they are not cheap.

I have 4 GEs that I got with the amp in their boxes that have "571 hours" written on them.
3 RCAs in boxes with some hand written stuff.
I got those with the Mac.

I have a couple Electro-Harmonix KT88s out of my old SUNN amp.
And the four GEs that are still in the amp working away.

Plus the 4 GLs that haven't gotten here yet.

I could almost retire.

Then you should be good to go. The GE's that have less than 600 hours on them should be useable for some time to come. The 3 RCA's sound like they may be Sylvania's re-branded (need to look at a picture to make sure).

I think you will like the GL's.

Difference....Yes.
A bit brighter.
A bit tighter and more controlled.
Bass has more punch.

It gave the albums I have played better engineering.:)
