Large receivers' power comparisons, how reliable are they?

gain might be gain, but depending on how a BJT is hooked up, you have current gain, current and voltage, or just voltage gain; our ampy things use common emitters cuz with both voltage and current increasing, conveniently available power is increasing as well.

Yup, gain is just gain. Gain in and of itself does not define the output, only a ratio of output to input. 10dB voltage gain means only that the output signal is ~3x more than the input signal.

Once power and all that is tossed into the mix then you are talking a system, not just about what gain means. I believe a fundamental understanding of gain without all the other stuff is key to better understanding of the system.

again, "war of the watts" was used for a reason, mainly the higher the watts per channel, the more coveted the monster, & the more expensive the monster, holds true both now & back then.
