LED fuse lamps and linear regulators.

Greetings. im currently working on a Realistic STA-78 that uses 12V bulbs and not the standard 8V bulbs. i thought about using the massively common 8V fuse LED's with a little circuit to convert the 12VAC to 8VDC using a jelly bean 8V or 9V regulator.

MY QUESTION: When using LED's from a regulator do i need the current limiting resistor? or can i run straight from the regulator?
If i still need the resistor, any idea what value i would need for 4 LED lights each with 3 diodes with unknown specs? Anyone that has used these fuse type LED's have any idea what current they draw?
