Let's see your unique Stereo Cabinets and Entertainment Centers!

This is one of my favorite threads, great stuff.
I built this simple sideboard to hold my stereo while I'm working on something more elaborate, which is taking forever...
It's just a simple mdf box, the front panel is veneered in pimento pepperwood burl, then the sides and top are just off the rack 16" deep shelving from HD. Some leveling feet and it's done.

How it looks in its place, please ignore the speaker stands that weren't done yet in this pic:

Very nice, especially so for a temporary solution. Then again you could put that beautiful beastie Yamaha receiver on a dirty peach crate and it would still look terrific.

I know this thread is kinda old but thought I'd post just for giggles. Currently running a pair of polk monitor 10s and a pair of magnapen SMGs through a technics sa 828 using a technics sl1800mk2 for turntable. The receiver and turntable I currently have sitting on a coffe table that I was gonna use but didn't have room for one and I needed a spot for my gear. The polls are sitting on some wood cabinets that have storage underneath for records or DVDs. Works out great as it brings them to ear height. The smgs I dont exactly have room for but I just move them when I use them and back when I don't.

I have a pair of SMG's that come out to play sometimes. :beerchug:

while I'm working on something more elaborate, which is taking forever...
In that vein - I got tired of looking at stacked boxes & wires everywhere, and really don't like shelves - I'm not looking to show anything off, and don't like looking at clutter. So I had a very bad brain attack almost a year ago "how about an 80% scale model of an L200 as a 'gear' rack"?
And the more I thought about it, the more sense it made (and went to 95% full scale - scope creep!).
I had a damaged L200 foam grill (cats), so mounted that on some 3-Form blue Varia so it's reversible (cat defense).

8" Noctua fans, airflow from underneath and the side (filtered!) slots...runs @ 85degrees, dead silent.
Early plans:
rack 3-2 - Copy.jpg
About 1/2 sheet of walnut plywood later - As built: (hint: it's the one in the corner)

You have really done outstanding work here, not only in the craftsmanship, but the well thought out design. That equipment cab looks identical to the L200 speaker! And anyone thinking how hard could building an L200 cab be, well it's downright deceptive, the nose edging themselves, and the side grills are quite difficult to get right. Lots of compound angles that a novice cabinet builder would completely underestimate. Really puts those 1970 cab builders at JBL in a good light!

Well done!

The ORIGINAL cabinet my 5000a system came in new in 1969ish. Little dirty and I do have the glass door The turntable is there but I can't get it in the picture.

Glad you did. For now, I have a similar set up as you. I know a lot of money can be spent just for holding/displaying/using gear but why not re-purpose something you already have?
I am still looking for a good way to hold my LP's, right now they're just leaning up against the table

I actually had no idea about this system until recently. I remember listening to OZZY back in the 80s on this system then I moved out of my parents, This was my Dads and he was Air Force for 30 years and he bought this in Japan . Well my dad passed away 2 years ago and I was left the house. So I was going though the Attic and came across this again. I thought it was long gone . So I started checking out was this was . I knew it was vintage, So I semi dug this out and plugged it in and everything works. I just happened across this website to inquire about it. My dad took care of everything so that explains why the cabinet is still 100%. Most cabinets see the garbage truck within a few years. But to have the complete system speakers and the cabinet makes this quite rare. I just got lucky to have this complete,,

Tomorrow I am going to dig this out of my attic and give it a good cleaning and take some decent pictures. I want to see what this whole system maybe worth with cabinet speakers and all. Ill put up some pics here . Maybe someone on here might be interested in it and have everything in one go.

Hope this is the right place to ask about these speakers. Just back into HiFi and picked these up at the White Elephant for 25$ just to get some sound. There are no markings but they have turned out to be fantastic. Small full range driver, that I think can be seen behind the cloth grill, and also a cone tweeter sitting on top of the actual enclosure. Effort has been taken to time align the tweeter and sound deadening material has been placed around it. There is a port on the bottom of the enclosure and good caps inline with the tweeter.
Any ideas?
Thanks
