Line voltage selector

Hi, I just want to see if my line of thinking is right about this. This is on a Pioneer SX-9000, the line voltage selector was set at 110 volts when I got this unit. I measure 120 V on my outlets. I want to move the selector to 117 V. When doing this, will it tap into the transformer so that it steps down the output voltage just a little bit to where the designers wanted the output voltage to be. I did this once before and bad things happen. This time I will use my DBT but I would like not to burn anything up.
Thanks
