Linn Classik problem

Hi there,
does anyone have, or know where I can get hold of a Schematic for the Classik. I have e-mailed Linn but had no response. The amp works fine once you can get it to come of standby. It takes at least 10 attempts to get it to switch on unless it's left for 5 mins.

Thanks

Wow, what are the chances of this!

My 7 year old Classik developed the exact same problem last night.

It seems worse though - after powering on, it takes around 10 minutes even for the standby message to appear on screen, then it won't go any further.

I presume it is a PSU problem - it is almost as if it is taking a long time to "charge up" - and even then, it doesn't quite manage to get there. You can even see the green power indicator LED getting progressively birghter during the first 5 minutes after switch on.

Anyone with experience of this problem, please do share...... For me, it will probably have to be an independent service specialist, but I'm fairly handy with electrics / electronics, so I may have a go myself if I can get any more info.

What kind of PSU is inside the Classik - SMPS or transformer? In both cases not one nor another cannot starts up in 10 min - this is too abnormal. Don't have schematiс and even the device but check if there is inside a Mempack? This is a pack of accumulators that (maybe) supplies microprocessor and if you will find it inside then check voltage on it (with mains unplugged of cause :nono: ). It has to be around what you will see written on Mempack (~ 3-3,3 v). If it's too low, i.e. ~ 1 v then gently push out plastic cover - you will see the batteries and (maybe) some of them leak out. If voltage is correct then I'm not right and there is another reason.

Mine was doing the same thing for a while. Now I can't get it out of standby at all. Anyone find a solution?

I have the exact same problem. It started with 2-5 attempts and now it takes at least 20 before it starts from standby. What can I do other than throwing to the bin?

Isn't the internet wonderful. I had this problem for the first time today. Trying to turn my Classik on from Standby resulted in some clicking noise (attempting to open the disc drawer?) and then going right back into Standby. A two minute Google search and I found your post and my solution. Worked perfectly. Thank you!

Holy crap! My office Rotel integrated just bit the dust, so I was going to send in my retired Linn Classik for repair. I googled Linn repair, found this thread again, applied mgrim's solution, and voila: it's fixed!

My Linn classik has the symptoms described above and I want to replace the smoothing capacitors. Can anyone advise where I can source the Jamicon originals or alternatives?

I have one that seems to hate CDs ;)
Everything is fine with analog sources, but of CD I hear faint staticy sound. Once by changing the volume I got normal audio, but now it is back to static. It looks like Linn designed their own D/A, but I don't see the normal L/R clock and B clock. Does anyone know what tricks they played with the CD? A schematic would be nice, of course.:scratch2:
