Log out, log in anomaly - change bookm@rk to https

@pustelniakr - I hope my little experiment helps in someway.

Device 1: Late 2009 MacBookPro running OS 10.13.6 and Safari 12.0.3
Device 2: iPhone Xs running iOS 12.1.4 and Safari

The following steps were done on both devices:

Disabled Safari browsing data, passwords, favorites, etc from sharing via iCloud
Deleted Favorites
Deleted all traces of AudioKarma from Keychain Access
Cleared all browsing history
Restart
Checked and found no traces of AK anywhere
Logged into AK via browser search for www.audiokarma.org
Select "Watched Threads"
Select "Vinyl Only Spin list"
Re-select "Watched Threads"

Results:

MacBookPro - thread opened but I was immediately logged out upon selecting "Watched Threads" again.

iPhone Xs - no issues. Went on to select other (some) problematic threads such as "What are you listening to right now and on what speakers", "AK Retiree Club" & "Today's JAZZ playlist" without issue. Since this issue started I have had a couple of long streaks using the iPhone without problems leading me to think "problem solved" only to have it crop up again.

Clearing my bookmarks didn’t work, but logging in on the http page seems to have done the trick. The home button sends me back to https, but I haven’t been logged out and I’ve been navigating around for about 20 minutes. Before this, I was getting logged out on about every third thread.

I’m running Safari on iOS 12.1 (iPad).

This worked for my IPad as well. Good find!

@Te-Te Can you try this when you get a chance?

I tried to bookmark the http// address with google, but it automatically showed the https// address. So I tried with Yahoo and I was able to bookmark the http// address that way. Then I went back to Google and used the saved http// address and Bingo. I'm using Google now. I will continue to go through all different threads and report back. Thank's Dave for the heads up and Everyone else trying to figure this out.

Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite using Safari.

Changed AK bookmark to https://www.audiokarma.org/. Closed all windows, cleared history and emptied caches, then closed Safari and restarted the Macbook.

Connected to AK https address. From the home page, logged in (checking the box to remain logged in).

Selected new posts.

Browsed a couple of threads, reloaded the page in each thread, LIKE'ed a couple of posts in each thread, and reloaded the page again in each thread. After all that I was still logged in.

Browsed this thread https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-new-wave-of-british-heavy-metal.848685/. Reloaded the page - I was no longer logged in.

Browsing this thread https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/is-this-filter-cap-backwards.858271/ also causes me to get logged out.

Try doing all that again without the (s). and bookmark the http address so you don't automatically get redirected to https
when logging in.

Curious if it will help you too

If you go in to the base page, you will be bumped to https, regardless of the prefix used to access that base page, since the base page immediately redirects to the same place as the "home" tab. You need to enter via this initial page, to access the http: layer

Losing the (s) and being able to bookmark the http address and logging in with that, allowed me to avoid being automatically redirected to https address. I have not been logged out since.
I wish I could explain it better, but I'm a caveman when it comes to this.

I created a bookmark with the link that Rich listed in post #130, closed all windows, cleared history and emptied caches, closed Safari and restarted the Macbook. I then accessed AK using the new bookmark, logged in and repeated the steps I listed previous including browsing this thread https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-new-wave-of-british-heavy-metal.848685/ and reloading the page and was not logged out.

You're not a caveman as you are trying to troubleshoot the issue. That's more than most of my clients do. :beerchug:

I'm sure that things will be sorted out. We just need to be patient. :)

Edit: I don't mean to imply that you are being impatient, Terence.

So logging in with a bookmarked http address and not https address helped you too? I think at least for Apple users that is something that needs to be looked at.

Having trouble here for the first time. On Chrome, I cannot log in at all. Switched to IE, and I can log in, but I am continually bumped off and have to log in again, even after selecting the keep-logged-in button.

What's going on?

What browser and OS are you using ?

My personal view
I think everyone who is having problems is using browser settings which don't agree with the requirements for logging in to AK now that it has switched to 'https://' (like 'browser redirects' not set to 'allow' ?). Most people are ok - but people using Apple Mac +relevant browser or Firefox, or an OS other than Windows 7 (Windows 10 ?) seem mostly to be the ones having issues. Unfortunately 'IE', 'FireFox' and 'Safari' et al... have slightly different ways of operating, and default settings that are different, and/or named differently. Chrome and Windows 7 seems to be the most successful combination, as far as the reports I have seen indicate.

I'll be checking out Windows 10 and Chrome tomorrow (or 'today' now) - but I'll need to have a sleep first. :D

Edit Update
I just checked Windows 10 with Chrome (& Ghostery) - I can log in to http:// AK - but logging in to https:// AK just once - prevents me from logging in to http:// AK again - with it not even registering the login attempt it seems. ;)

Edit Update #2
I just tried IE 11 with Windows 7 - I can log in to both https:// AND http:// - and also both at the same time - and if I log out of one it logs me out of both! - further confirmation of the differences in the way different browsers deal with the two different address URL's.

I can still log in, browse anywhere I like, open tabs, open AK pages beginning with http:// , I can see all images in all threads, and do not get logged off or forced to change my password. To me this site is exactly the same as it was before the change to https://

And I also get the same results on my Android phone - no funny business - it's just the same as before.

But to re-state, this is just a personal view based on what I have read here on AK, and tried out myself in an attempt to help others.

Try this link. But first, here is a quick summary from above of what to do before using it.

1. Close all browser tabs, but one (like just google).
2. Delete all cookies, cache etc...
3. Close last tab open
4. Copy and past this link and login from here.

5. Delete all existing bookmarks of AK

http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php

If that doesn't work. Repeat 1-4 !and use this link.

https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php

I''m using the https one without issue.
