I used to be pretty good friends with the owner of a local wrecking yard. I went there one day while the city was doing it's annual towing of inoperable vehicles, and spotted a Jensen sitting there, complete car, red with black interior. A few scratches dings, and faded old paint, but looked complete. I walked past it, then spotted a 1965 Dodge Polaris convertible, white with blue interior, nice upholstery, 318 motor, bucket seats and console.
When I got done looking for whatever it was I was looking for, I asked about the Dodge. He was waiting for it to clear DMV for the salvage. I asked, "How many people have looked at the Dodge?" He answered, "Everyone who comes in here." So I asked, "How come nobody has bought it from you?" He answered, "Nobody has asked how much." I said, "OK, I'll bite - how much?" He said,"$300.00" I said, "Hell, I'll buy it for that! While I'm at it - how about the Jensen Healey?" "Same thing - nobody has asked how much yet. You can have the pair for $500.00"
I wrote him a check, and he delivered them to me as soon as the papers cleared.
Neither car had keys, but I didn't care. The next day, a customer came into my store and asked about the Dodge. I told him I had just bought it from the yard. He said that it belonged to a friend of his that was moving out of state and wasn't taking it with him. He said unfortunately he had left all of his tools in the trunk and really needed them. I told him if he would leave the keys behind, he could come and get anything he wanted out of it. He was here about an hour later.
The next day, another customer spotted the Jensen, said he had a Lotus with a bum motor, and wanted to buy it.
I sold them both - probably shouldn't have.
