Loud 'chirping' noise upon start-up

This KX-200 that I recently restored with new e-caps including cans makes a loud 'chirp' about 15 seconds after start-up. It's loud, like a smoke alarm going off but just the one 'chirp' and then it's done. Doesn't happen again.

I'm guessing it's a power cap discharging, but if so how would I go about eliminating it? Or maybe it's something else?

I would first confirm that it's not a tube going through some sort of strange gyrations during warm up.

Thanks Dave! It's a quad of old Westinghouses so might be a possibility. I'll change them out and see if that's it.

Could be, Tom, but a big one who doesn't like 400 volts curling his tail

bhamham;

Dave is right - try tubes first. If it is isolated to one channel, try swapping its other channel mate (same stage in the opposite channel) and see if the trouble moves with the tube. If so, you have found the culprit. There are other possibilities, but try the simple things first. Corroded slide switches can also cause a plethora of faults.
